Bomber. Pours clear dark red and orange with a foamy 1.5-finger orange and beige head. Aromas of Belgian yeast and candi sugar, smoky chilies, banana and esters, and some spices. The flavor is cinnamon and chili, smoky chilies and earth/dirt, Belgian yeast, and sugar. The finish is slightly spicy with some earthy notes. Medium carbonation and body. Good; different, but the smoky/spicy notes work here. [902]

22oz bottle in a shaker. Pours deep amber with a lacy, cream-colored head. Aroma of spicy yeast, cinnamon, some spiciness, caramel malts, and floral/citrusy hops. Flavor the same, very spicy. Average texture. A good beer.

Pours reddish brown with a short-lived beige head. Aroma of chiles and gingerbread. Lots of chile taste with not a lot of heat, allowing toasted malt and grassy notes to shine through.

Pours a clear dark brown with garnet highlights when held to light, stingy beige head shows moderate retention and lace. Smells of sweet candy sugar, spicy yeast esters, coriander, some kind of pie spices like nutmeg or all spice, there’s a hint of red pepper in the aroma, but I can’t find the cinnamon. Taste is sweet fruity and sugary up front, then the yeast takes over a bit before slowly expressing some pomme fruits, a dry spice character, red pepper flavor with a hint of heat. Finishes a bit sweet with a lingering candy sugar sweetness and a touch of heat. Moderate to high level of carbonation, medium body with a sweet bubbly mouthfeel. I enjoyed this one more than I thought I would. Lots of stuff going on here. I would have liked a bit more pepper, but its just the same.

On tap at the Knick. Mild sweet aroma, with toasted malt and chile, light tangy and citric acidity. Can’t smell cinnamon but there is a spicy character to it. Dark coppery amber clear with thin lacing head. Starts fairly sweet with roasted malt and barley, sweet chile notes and dry spicy character from the cinnamon. Nice taste to start, but turns a little too bitter and in an unpleasant way. Not bad but couldn’t drink more than one at a time.

On tap. Pours a dark golden color with a persisting white foamy head. Notes of baking spices, honey, chili powder, and grass. Thick mouthfeel, medium to long length finish. Interesting.

The auburn colored body looked quite different than most BSPA’s. The head that formed in the tulip glass was three finger thick, and beige. The smell was more similar to the darker Belgian beers as well, with lavender, juniper, white pepper, orange peel, and coriander being evident. The taste was very herbal, with a strong, almost overwhelming cinnamon and mint presence. I could detect the smokiness of the Anaheim chiles after the initial flavors calmed down. The mouthfeel was actually pretty good, with a oily, coating action. The aftertaste was a lingering herbal note. I think this would be better after mellowing some more, as the flavors tend to clash a bit right now.

Pours dark amber with a khaki head. Aroma is cinnamon, caramel and spice. Flavor starts sweet with cinnamon, then becomes earthy and bitter with a little spice, finishing with a little heat you can feel in the back of you throat.

650 ml. bottle. Pours a medium, off white, lasting head, over a clear, dark amber (SRM 17) body....nose is cinnamon, light dried fruits (raisin, cherry), hints of toffee/caramel.....taste is sharp vegetal chili, with lighter cinnamon, touch of toffee/caramel, light sweetness throughout, finishing bitter....mouth feel medium, alcohol hidden, carbonation high. This is a beer that does not quite work. The aromas promise much, but the flavors fall down. The malt back bone is complex, and the light cinnamon is a pleasant addition. The chiles, while hidden compared to many a "chili beer", are a detraction rather than an addition to the composition. The result is a mishmash of aromas and flavors that comes close, but doesn’t quite work. BJCP 7/3/10/4/6

Bottle with Carla. Pours amber with off-white foam. Smells slightly spicy of peppers. Tastes slightly sweet with hints of spices and ends with a slight twinge of spiciness.
