3.8 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20
On tap at F&B during a "Tap Takeover" in Wellington NZ. Considering I had had many other Stone brews in the days leading up to this one, and all had been singularly excellent, I wasn’t surprised when I found this one the same. Same (excellent) but different (flavoured).

2.6 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 3/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 9/20
Pours a dark reddish-amber with a modest but tenacious off-white head. Nose is fairly typical for a strong darker belgian (brown and candied sugar, fruit, yeast, light floral hops) with just a hint of spice and the much-discussed pepper. Flavor is a little weird and earthy; front is abrasively funky but without much depth or character. Backside is quite bland and difficult to describe, frankly, but I’m not a fan of it. Neither the chilis nor the belgian qualities of the beer come out much on the flavor, instead leaning toward a boozy, bland herbal ale. This is probably the most disappointing brew I’ve had from Stone.

3.9 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
Aroma: Very spicy--cinnamon and clove--almost like a cookie.
Appearance: Dark amber, cloudy, with minimal head.
Palate: Medium body, slick texture, long spiced finish, minimal carb
Taste: Medium sweetness all the way through
Overall: Nice, deceptively sweet and spiced beer. Not getting a lot of the chiles, but it’s still quite solid.

3 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 12/20
Bottle and draft. Clear amber pour. Spicy pepper and basil. Slight burn on the nostrils from the pepper. Habanero? Thin body pepper more present in bottle. I like it better than others but its still meh.

3.3 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20
Tried on tap. Pours a dark brown color with some reddish tints. Little to no head. Aroma is malty and spicy. I think the chilies are in the aroma. Odd, I think. Taste is malty but spicy, again, there is a chili aspect to it. Not one of my favorites of the epic series. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

3.2 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20
Pours a clear, deep amber body with a one finger off-white head. Caramel, cinnamon, bananas. Not getting the chilis. Just ok.

4 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
Interesting combination... belgian ale meets southwest cuisine. And it works. It packs a wallop, and has the same rich palate as their Double Bastard ale, but there is also a lot of complexity and subtlety. The cinnamon and anaheim peppers are used sparingly, and they mingle quite well with the belgian yeast. The aroma is weaker than I expected. Overall, Stone has really out-dogfished the competition with this innovative brew.

3.4 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20
Pours a clear amber with light carb and massive head that holds well. Sweet aromas of fruit, sugar, and chilies? Interesting finish: sweet then something then sweet... good but not great.

2.5 AROMA 4/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 9/20
What people said here, pretty much - basically tastes like a hot cinnamon candy with a balanced caramel backbone. I thought it was all right. Enjoyable enough, but nothing I would search out. I’d like to thank my dad for sharing this.
