Bottle picked up from Rickís in Alexandria. Served in a Stone Vertical Epic glass that can be described as stemless martini-like. Pours a dark golden-copper color with a good white head and some lacing. The nose brings forward plenty of chilis plus a moderate amount of cinnamon and light malt. Taste is a bit odd at first, getting worse as it warms. As expected, the flavors donít come together at all. Terrible idea; bad execution. Not really looking forward to this again in 2012, but I suppose I must. Finish was grossly dry. Bad.

Bottle at Asahiya. Very spicy nose with lots of cinnamon, chocolate, Belgian yeast. Raunchy, astringent flavor of cinnamon and chiles. The finish is like too much spice just gone bad, and I guess the chiles help to make it like that, but it really is dominated by a spice astringency that is extremely unpleasant. A nasty-tasting beer.

Hazy deep copper and amber-tinted bronze coloured body with a thick, fast-dying tan head. Aroma of alcohol, chiles (naturally), caramel, toasted malt, oak and a bunch of deep earthy notes. Full-bodied; Strong spicey flavour of the chiles, canella, earthy malt, alcohol, toasted notes, oak, drying hay and some more warm chiles. Aftertaste shows a lot of depth, but nothing too pleasant - the chiles are perhaps a bit too present, the canella hits too hard and the alcohol and drying notes are way too pungent to make this moderately drinkable. Plus, add in the syrupy, viscous body and the high alcohol content AND the large format bottle and you are left with a big mess. Overall, easily one of the least favourable vertical epic beers - nothing to be happy about in this one except for one thing, they didnít make yet another of the same imperial ipa. I sampled this 65 cL bottle purchased from Oliverís Beverage in Albany, New York on 18-November-2011 for US$7.99 sampled at home in Washington on 22-August-2013.

UPDATED: JAN 6, 2013 Agave nose? Clear brown, medium yellow head. prickly pear and overripe apples. this has the same off-putting (to me anyways) hop that I have found in a few others beers. Re-rate: Re-sampled on 01/04/13. After a year of age, much of the original flavor of this beer has disappeared, except for the chiles, which are now in the forefront. All in all, that makes it much better.

Medicincy, not medicinal, but in a foreign country kind of way. Amber with an alcohol consistency, and that means runny. Some vegetable spice herb bullshit going on. Just make beer stone. Why? Smells like something i donít want to take when Iím sick. Tastes like a pumpkin ale. Fail. But Iím sure the ingredients were expensive... unfortunately an occasional poor indicator of quality.... which does not equate to enjoyment.

Draught @ Mikro: This one poured a hazy, dark amber color. There was a small tan head on it. Iím not to sure about the aroma. Peppers are predominate. They tend to mask much of anything else. There is a blended aroma besides the peppers, but it isnít really compelling nor offensive. The taste is different. I get a Belgian yeasty, bready beer with some hops, but then the light peppery taste manages to overwhelm it, and not in a good way. Maybe the peppers will mellow over time, but right now this beer isnít that good.

the pour is transparent burgundy red with little tan colored head. Nose is medicinal, cherry, light mint and overly sweet. Flavor is too sweet and medicinal with notes of cherry and mint with a bandaid finish. Body is syrupy and heavy with a low carb. ouch!

Pours a cloudy orange-brown color with a big bubbly head fades normally. Aroma is very odd, spicy chili peppers, belgian yeast, and candi sugar. Not a fan of the taste all. Chili peppers mixed with very sweet and syrupy malt. Finish is dry and slightly tart. This is pretty gross.

Bottle - Malty toffee nose with chili peppers. Cloudy amber with a thin head. The flavor was dominated by chili powder, which tasted like it was dumped in. I found this beer to be out of balance and almost undrinkable with the way the pepper tasted. This may be due to the age of the beer.

Bottle. Pours copper with a large beige head. Aroma of funk with a hint of pepper. Flavors of caramel malts, artificial sweetener, syrup, a funky yeast flavor and peppers starting in the middle to the end. Donít taste the cinnamon. Overall the flavors combine to give the beer a taste similar to dirt. Not good.
