Interesting combination... belgian ale meets southwest cuisine. And it works. It packs a wallop, and has the same rich palate as their Double Bastard ale, but there is also a lot of complexity and subtlety. The cinnamon and anaheim peppers are used sparingly, and they mingle quite well with the belgian yeast. The aroma is weaker than I expected. Overall, Stone has really out-dogfished the competition with this innovative brew.

Bottle @ weekly tasting shared with Dutchdrebus. Murky red - red brownish color, medium to full sized dense beige head that lasts for a long time. Aroma is malts, sweetness, a touch of herbs or spices. Taste malts, again quite sweet, alcohol or liquor, some herbs or spices, but slightly hops and a very nice bitterness as well. Medium to full body and carbonation.

Dark amber/light brown with a decent tan head. Aroma is chilies, mango chutney, hint of cinnamon. Medium bodied, starts sweet on the palate with a subtle chili aftertaste. Flavours are quince, cinnamon, honey, rose.

Hog shack bottle share. Hazy amber and creamy tan cap. Aroma of chili and cinnamon for sure. Also flowers, caramel, syrup. Taste is sweet, and slightly bitter. Creamy finish, and some heat in the finish, but not overwhelming.

This is a flavorful beer. Strong flavor of cherries and pours a reddish brown in color. Really sweet and not very bitter. Had at world of beer ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

22 oz bottle from the Village Beer Merchant in Buffalo, served in a stem glass alongside the red wine barrel version and 12-12-12 at a tasting at Dan’s. Pours slightly reddish caramel with a medium tan head that remains and leaves a small amount of fine lace. The nose has big notes of pepper, cinnamon and spice, along with caramel malts, toffee and earth. The flavour is medium sweet with huge caramel and toffee, along with banana, clove, pepper and flowers. The finish is long and malty, with toffee and medium pepper. On the palate it is medium-full in body with a smooth creamy texture and soft carbonation. Overall, a very nice peppery-spicy toffeeish malt-forward brew. Surprisingly balanced for a peppery brew, quite delicious. 2014-06-07

22 ounce bottle into tulip glass, bottled in 10/2011. Pours slightly hazy/cloudy deep ruby red color with a 2 finger dense and fluffy light khaki head with good retention, that reduces to a nice cap that lingers. Nice spotty foamy lacing clings on the glass, with a fair amount of streaming carbonation. Aromas of big raisin, plum, fig, pear, cinnamon, clove, caramel, toast, dark candi sugar, chili pepper, herbal, and yeast earthiness. Damn nice aromas with good balance and complexity of fruity/earthy yeast, dark malt, and cinnamon/chile spice notes; with good strength. Taste of raisin, plum, fig, pear, cinnamon, clove, caramel, toast, dark candi sugar, brown bread, clove, chile pepper, herbal, and yeast earthiness. Light chile heat/spiciness on the finish; with lingering notes of raisin, plum, fig, pear, cinnamon, clove, caramel, toast, dark candi sugar, brown bread, chile pepper, herbal, and yeast earthiness on the finish for a while. Incredible complexity and balance of fruity/earthy yeast, dark/bready malt, and cinnamon/chile spice flavors; with big robustness and zero cloying flavors after the finish. Medium carbonation and medium-full bodied; with a smooth, fairly crisp, and lightly slick mouthfeel that is nice. Alcohol is well hidden with only a light warming present after the finish. Overall this is an outstanding Belgian chile beer. All around fantastic complexity and balance of fruity/earthy yeast, dark/bready malt, and cinnamon/chile spice flavors; and very smooth to sip on for the big ABV. A highly enjoyable offering.

Tap at Sail. Pours dark brown with a thick beige head. Nose is banana forward with heavy cinnamon focus. Nice spice to this over a sweet Belgian yeast. It works really well. Very balanced. I like it

Slightly cloudy, light brown liquid with a small off-white head. Drapes aplenty. Robust malty aroma of dark fruits with a hint of hot spices. A bit underwhelming, medium sweet taste, some almost medicinal bitterness towards the finish, a little alcohol. There is definitely chilli and cinnamon there but they feel kind of tired like an old spice jar left on the rack though the best before date passed years ago. Some chilli heat in the aftertaste. Medium to rich mouthfeel, low carbonation. Think I held on to this one a bit too long, but still pretty good.
