COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
As with any good epic, herein lies the promise of larger-than-life experiences, heroics, and twists and turns as the adventure unfolds. This bottle-conditioned ale is chapter eleven. Now is the time to enjoy it in a “vertical” tasting side by side with its ten Stone Vertical Epic Ale brethren! Each one unique to its year of release. Each with its own “twist & turn” in the plot line. Each one released one year, one month and one day from the previous year’s edition. This year’s Stone Vertical Epic Ale is the very last one. Yep, this is it. The final chapter. Or as they say on the last slide in some old films: “Fin.” No worries though: this edition is particularly well-suited for prolonging the experience, as it’s as cellarable as any in the series, or more. In this, the final edition, you can expect a perfectly balance *womp* of spices: cinnamon, ginger, allspice, sweet orange peel, clove (only a little!) and rosehips, all in the context of a dark Belgian style abbey-ish beer…but not as sweet. Dry even. Stone style. Thanks for coming on this Epic Stone-style journey with us! You can rest assured there will be new adventures to come…

Bottle. Holy spice bomb....seriously...spice bomb. Pours a thick black tar with a sticky brown head. Not sure how I feel about this, tons of flavor such as cloves, nutmeg, pumpkin, cinnamon, etc. Nice belly burn. Sort of a nice holiday or fall beer. Still good, but not really into spices in my brew.

Very spicy, clove in particular, also a little cinnamon, nutmeg, black licorice. And clove. Did I mention clove? Because there’s a lot of it here. The spices actually mellow out as the beer warms to room temperature, or my tastebuds were just blown by that point. Sounds like I didn’t like it and that’s not true, but you really need to be in the mood for a liquid spice cabinet.

Definitely one of my favorites of the series. Great front end and after notes are not overpowering. Smooth and flavorful.

This bomber was sent to me by Hayduke. We had it together via facebook chat. A very dark pour with enough red. A beautiful dark tan head is four fingers. Is that pumpkin pie in the aroma? So much to it. Oh my, the flavor is the same. Pumpkin pie spices galore. Cinnamon, brown sugar. Hops that grow and bring bitterness and citrus. A zesty bitterness that is noted very deep in the throat. This beer is so complex and changes from sip to sip. I feared it was over done with the complexity but not so. It managed to be able to hold up just fine. Chocolate was tasted later and the last sip was chocolatey mint. Amazingly complex. Delicious.

I really don’t know if I love or hate this beer. I was expecting more of a Belgian abbey style, but got something completely different, almost like a dark pumpkin stout. Aroma was of pumpkin and fall spices. Appearance is almost black with a decent tan head that leaves some moderate lacing. Taste is of pumpkin, cinnamon, and cloves. Palate is thick and smooth. Overall it is a very good beer, just not to sure about the style it is advertised as.

Draft at craft ale house. Pours pitch black with a medium sized brown head. The aroma has some spicy pepper, cocoa, maybe some cinnamon. The taste is very spicy, big pepper, cinnamon, very dry.

Thick black pour. Oily. Aroma is of dark chocolate, hint of coffee, and caramel. Flavor is bold, some alcohol comes through. Heavy mouth feel. A good beer but about a bottle is enough.

Bottle sample at a Vertical Epic tasting at Mastikim. Thanks Ariel. Pours black, opaque with tan wave. Spicy - clove, nutmeg, some allspice and burnt aroma, dry and very mildly bitter in the mouth. Full body, some fizz.

Very dark brown pour. Nose of sweet, roasted malts, spice and dark fruits. Flavors similar- spicy, cooked fruits, Belgian fruity yeast, dark malts. Finished w/ a strong, dry hop bitterness.
