4 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
Love this brewery. No such thing as normal. Pours black with tan head...looks stoutish. Aromas are yeasty and spicy...but the flavours are crazy...like someone had their way with the spice rack. Massive clove and allspice flavours. Bitter chocolate malts at the end. Tastes like christmas in a glass....Stone-style. Memorable beer.

3.9 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
22 oz. bottle from SoHo Organic Market in Elizabeth City, NC. Pours almost black with a frothy brown head reminiscent of an imperial stout. The aroma is heavy on the licorice with light dark fruits, ginger, and allspice. The taste is heavy on the spices (ginger, cinnamon, clove, and allspice). Some dark roasted malt leaves a lasting impression on the palate. Really unlike anything I can recall trying before and one of the better beers (if not the best) I have had in this series.

3.6 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20
Location/Date:Bottle on January 26th, 2013 during day 2 of Nerd Beer Epic Weekend.
Appearance: Pours a dark black.
Aroma: Aroma of spice, wheat, , dark malt.
Taste: Similar to the nose - wheat, spices - cinnamon, allspice, clove, dark malt.
Summary: A nice finish to the VE series, this one seems very winter oriented which makes sense as most people are enjoying it now since the final release. Have one more bottle I’ll enjoy soon.

3.7 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
Location: Bottle at Nerd Beer Epic Weekend, 1/26/13
Aroma: It has lots of Christmas-style spice, clove, cinnamon, ginger, etc., and some dark malts
Appearance: It pours a dark brown-black color with a small beige head and light lace
Flavor: Tastes spicy, pretty much just like the nose, lightish malt sweetness and minimal bitterness
Palate: This one has a medium body, average carbonation, and a dry, spicy finish
This one is a big time spice beer. Lots of Christmas spice. Pretty tasty stuff, but if you don’t like those Christmas spice I would definitely stay away, as they dominate this beer.

4.1 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20
Bomber from The Davis Beer Shoppe. Pours dark brown with a creamy dark tan head. Aroma is very spicy. Ginger might be the stand out. Xmas beer. Full bodied. Flavor is very spicy indeed. Ginger and allspice stand out. Lots of flavor in this ale. Finishes quite dry, somehow, and a little ashy/earthy. Finally I get a cinnamon note. Quite the experience.

3.7 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 16/20
Bomber from Downtown Wine & Spirits. Pours a very dark, rich black with a small tan head. Looks like a stout, really. Aroma is very fruity and sweet. Bubblegum cuts through with orange, chocolate, and a fruity bouquet. The flavor is pretty roasty, which is a little different for the style. It starts candyish but actually finishes kind of dry. The flavor packs some cinnamon and floral spices with a complex fruitiness. Though the spices are strong, they are not overbearing like some of the past vertical epics. I suppose since this one is meant to be consumed fresh, that would stand to reason.

10oz pour at Tylers Apex. Good aroma, sweet, yeasty. Chocolate, clove. Dark orangy brown color, good head that faded quick spotty lace. Bittersweet flavor. Medium body, smooth creamy mouthfeel, sweet finish. Pretty tasty. End of the epic...

4.3 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 18/20
Bottle from giant eagle. Wanted to try before the run was over. Bright clean nose with just a little bite. Medium nut brown pour. Medium body and nutmeg upfront with hints of roasted malt and mixed spice. Pretty tasty overall and a great holiday style spiced ale.

2.8 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 4/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 10/20
650 ml. bottle. Bottled 11.29.12 Pours a thick, well retained, tiny bubbled, mocha head, with some lacing, over a very dark brown (SRM 35) body........nose is heavy spices, including allspice, nutmeg....taste is heavy spices with a huge allspice, hints of clove, hints of molasses, very light sweetness, leading to a spice dominated, lingering, bitter finish.....mouth feel medium, astringent, alcohol heat present, carbonation makes a nice creaminess. The heavy spice load is utterly dominant, and makes for a completely unbalanced beer. The spices are quite unpleasant in their dominance, and the bitter spice finish is very unpleasant. The darn thing is like an unsweetened fruitcake or mince pie. This really is, at its present age, not a good beer. BJCP 6/3/10/4/5

4.4 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 18/20
Poured up a dark black with a small tan head. Smells of chocolate malts and spice. The taste is mostly spice with some hints at the malts used. Seemed that the ginger and allspice dominated but letting it sit on the tongue a while could kind of pick out some of the others. Very good brew. This is the first time I have seen Vertical Epic on the shelves and now I am wishing my local stores had been on top of this so I could have tried the others. Oh well at least I got to check this one out.
