One of the best aromas on a beer. Not my favorite tasting with a bit of a funky after taste.

Bottle about two years old now. Thick dark black pour with mocha head, looks like a big imperial stout. Aroma is loaded with spices, clove, nutmeg, chocolate and gingerbread. Taste is spices, followed by bitterness, some gingerbread like flavour and some light sweetness with a bitter dry finish, no hint from the booze, mouthfeel and carbonation are medium. Overall it’s an interesting beer perhaps a bit muted from the age but very smooth with no harshness from the spices it’s maybe a bit one dimensional from the spices but overall pretty decent.

12oz bottle. Pours a dark brown, nearly black color with a small creamy khaki colored head that has good retention. Aroma has a big dose of clove and nutmeg, with hints of cinnamon, allspice, gingerbread, floral sweetness, fruitcake, burnt dark sugar and fig. Taste has big flavors of clove, cinnamon, gingerbread cookie, nutmeg, allspice. Tastes like Christmas in a glass. The finish lingers charred malt, candied orange and sweet figs. Medium body with low carbonation that leads to a slightly foamy feel and a smooth finish.

Bottle to Glass. Dark hue with brown head. Aroma is clove, cinnamon, cereal, toast. Mouthfeel is ok with a medium body and crisp carbonation. Taste is sweet with a spice astringent finish. Overall this is an intense brew and is quite over-spiced.

Bottle. Pours black with rich tan head. Aroma of smoke, tons of spices, fennel, anise, allspice, ginger, just a ton of random spices. Taste is way over cloved, whoa clove....medium to full bodied, a lil flat. Overall, way overspiced.

Dark and spicy, lots of cinnamon, nutmeg, clove. Near black body with beige creamy head. Some chocolate in the aroma and taste, mildly dry finish. Overall very complex, lots of flavors combined.

UPDATED: JUL 29, 2015 Bottle @ RG 21. Very dark. Smells spicy and dry/sweet. Lots of metallic in the taste. Fairly light-bodied with some spice. original 3.2.
Re-rate 7/15. Had this lurking in the fridge for a few years. Cleaning out, plus no palate fatigue. Still getting some spice maybe allspice or clove. Aged well. Reminds me of Xmas. Nice and complex. Nothing metallic this go ’ round.

Bottle pour @ the 21st Richmond Gathering. Deep brown with a small head. Steak sauce. Cheery meat and chocolate. Coffee. Spices. So strange. taste is similar. Fruit leather. Nasty stale brown bread. Soy sauce. Objectionable. ’nuff said.

A very nice beer and a bit different from the past years VE’s. Lots of clove and allspice in both the aroma and palate. Light-to-medium sweetness left behind to help some of the dark fruit flavors come forward. Reminded me of some kind of blend of a BSA / Anchor’s OSA and Stone’s VE (which it is obv). So it’s a VEOSABSA...great.

Pint bottle from whole foods naples florida. Pours oil black with one finger tan head. Initial aroma is cloves, cinnamon. As it’s allowed to breath you can pick up the cocoa. Flavour is a dry cocoa powder and cloves. Blurb says they don’t go mad on cloves but I think they have, really dry earthy mouthfeel. Has a grassy, burnt hay aftertaste. It’s not that enjoyable but it’s interesting. Light enough body with a low amount of carbonation. I’m really going off spiced beers.
