3.5 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20
Bottle. Pours black with rich tan head. Aroma of smoke, tons of spices, fennel, anise, allspice, ginger, just a ton of random spices. Taste is way over cloved, whoa clove....medium to full bodied, a lil flat. Overall, way overspiced.

4.2 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 17/20
UPDATED: JUL 29, 2015 Bottle @ RG 21. Very dark. Smells spicy and dry/sweet. Lots of metallic in the taste. Fairly light-bodied with some spice. original 3.2.
Re-rate 7/15. Had this lurking in the fridge for a few years. Cleaning out, plus no palate fatigue. Still getting some spice maybe allspice or clove. Aged well. Reminds me of Xmas. Nice and complex. Nothing metallic this go ’ round.

3.9 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 16/20
On tap / 22oz bottle -
A very nice beer and a bit different from the past years VE’s. Lots of clove and allspice in both the aroma and palate. Light-to-medium sweetness left behind to help some of the dark fruit flavors come forward. Reminded me of some kind of blend of a BSA / Anchor’s OSA and Stone’s VE (which it is obv). So it’s a VEOSABSA...great.

3.3 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 14/20
Pint bottle from whole foods naples florida. Pours oil black with one finger tan head. Initial aroma is cloves, cinnamon. As it’s allowed to breath you can pick up the cocoa. Flavour is a dry cocoa powder and cloves. Blurb says they don’t go mad on cloves but I think they have, really dry earthy mouthfeel. Has a grassy, burnt hay aftertaste. It’s not that enjoyable but it’s interesting. Light enough body with a low amount of carbonation. I’m really going off spiced beers.

Flavor is lightly sweet, light bitter, spiced but not over the top, Belgian yeast esters, roasty, cocoa. Medium-light body. Pretty solid.

Bottle at home. Pours inky dark brown with a tan head. Lots of clove, all spice type stuff on the aroma. Medium body, medium carbonation. Massive clove taste... grass, light liquorice, coke, light dark fruit... The clove is a bit much but its OK.

4.1 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
"I was semi-excited about this release going in. The VE series have (with a couple exceptions) been good, but not my favorite Stone beers, and I think the majority of the aged botles will be badly faded by now. So, I expected to split one bottle for a vertical and have one to myself, maybe a half. Then I poured it. Beautiful black liquid with a rather sizeable khaki head. Aroma of spices combined with chocolate, belgian fruity yeast and dry roasted malts is quite nice, and the flavor is nearly identical. Very decadent, and quite possibly my favorite bottle release in the Vertical Epic series. I’ll definitely down a couple more of these, though probably won’t bother aging any as it drinks really nice right now."
