COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
As with any good epic, herein lies the promise of larger-than-life experiences, heroics, and twists and turns as the adventure unfolds. This bottle-conditioned ale is chapter eleven. Now is the time to enjoy it in a “vertical” tasting side by side with its ten Stone Vertical Epic Ale brethren! Each one unique to its year of release. Each with its own “twist & turn” in the plot line. Each one released one year, one month and one day from the previous year’s edition. This year’s Stone Vertical Epic Ale is the very last one. Yep, this is it. The final chapter. Or as they say on the last slide in some old films: “Fin.” No worries though: this edition is particularly well-suited for prolonging the experience, as it’s as cellarable as any in the series, or more. In this, the final edition, you can expect a perfectly balance *womp* of spices: cinnamon, ginger, allspice, sweet orange peel, clove (only a little!) and rosehips, all in the context of a dark Belgian style abbey-ish beer…but not as sweet. Dry even. Stone style. Thanks for coming on this Epic Stone-style journey with us! You can rest assured there will be new adventures to come…

Bomber from Whole Foods Market Charlottesville. Pours a dark brown color with a thin brown head. Good head retention. Lots of candy banana coming from the glass. Also caramel malts, citrus, spice. an herbal note and a faint touch of umami. The taste is intense herbal notes, caramel, bread, treacle, spicy finish. Medium bodied. Solid beer.

Tap at Anodyne in Albuquerque, NM December 2012-pours really dark brown with a soapy kacki head. WOW crazy stuff going on in the nose here-not what i was expecting at all-wood (cedar), nutmeg, cinnamon, allspice, ginger, with some metallic notes. crazy flavors of roast, chocolate, allspice, burnt notes (black malt?), which is big in the finish. I really like this-probably the best aniv beer they have put out the past 5 yrs. Well with that said, this is it-the last one. Lingering spices on the finish once the dominant roast notes fade away. A really unique brew here!

Draft. The aroma is very spicy. The appearance is black with a thin tan head. The taste is very pumpkin spice. The spice just overtakes this beer, but in a very good way. The palate ends a very mild spice. Overall, a great beer from stone... As always. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Bomber at ChurchKey. Nearly black in color with a small fading light khaki head. Licorice and menthol aroma with slight Belgian notes. Roasty flavor with menthol, spices, Belgian yeast, citrus peel, and anise. Fuller body with medium-low carbonation. Solid brew but not quite EPPICK!

Pour is dark. Basically black. Decent head that is tan with some hints of red. Nose is very spicy. Smells like the holidays. Everything they put in the brew sticks out, especially the cinnamon, clove, and orange peel. Pine cone. Nose is very pleasant and complex. Scares me a bit though. Smells like it will be over spiced. Luckily upon tasting the beer, the roasty malts blend flawlessly with the spices. It is bone dry. Not sweet at all. Very well done for a holiday beer. Great way to end the vertical epic series.

At Tap and Mallet’s Stone flight of 8 Vertical Epic Series from 05.05.05 to 12.12.12. Pours dark chocolate with a copper tan head. A little spice bite in the aroma, and taste of sweetness with clove, cinammon and other spices. Finishes nicely. I really enjoyed this last of the Vertical Epic series.

A pitch black appearance with a beige head. The aroma contains some coffee, cinnamon, ginger, and chocolate. The flavor is somewhat bitter with some strong coffee flavors accompanied by a lot of spices including ginger and cinnamon. The finish is somewhat dry with a bit of alcohol showing through. Overall this is a very nice way to finish out the verticals. And with this rating I’ve had all of them! Yes I’m bragging so what.

Tap. Dark, opaque brown with a modest beige head. Aroma of clove, allspice, nutmeg, cinnamon, Belgian yeast, mocha, and citrus. Taste is herbal and spiced and lightly sweet. Medium bodied. Very well done.

Draft at Dutch’s. Notes of candied brown sugar, dark fruit, molasses, maple syrup (?), and a ton of other spices. Just a lot going on in this beer. More than I expected, fo sho. I am really impressed.
