Poured from a bomber on 12.12.12. Pours dark chocolate with a copper tan head. A little spice bite in the aroma, and taste of sweetness with clove, cinammon and other spices. Finishes nicely. I really enjoyed this last of the Vertical Epic series.

Bottle pours opaque brownish black with thin oily head. Roast, toffee, coffee, allspice, cinnamon. Moderately bitter and sweet. Full bodied and crisp. A tad acidic. This is classified as a Belgian, but it reminds me of certain imperial stouts, albeit with some spices.

3.9 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
Bottle, shared at Brendan’s 12/12/12 party! Pours a deep dark black with a small tan head that lingers a bit. Aroma has a lot of roastyness, chocolate malt, nuts, spices, rather dry. Taste is very spicy, with a lot of allspice, ginger, cinnamon, with roasted malt, wood. Lingering dry spiciness. Different, tasty beer. Good ending to the series.

4.2 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 18/20
Poured from a 22 oz bottle on 12/12/12.
Very dark brown, with a tight tan head.
Aroma is loaded with spices, allspice and clove dominate, but cinnamon and ginger, black pepper, and maybe nutmeg are there too. In addition to the spice there are wisps of chocolate and coffee. On aroma alone I’m thinking this is going to be a nice winter warmer.
Spice also dominates the flavor, clove up front, with some cinnamon and allspice layered underneath. Molasses shows up as it warms, but never gets too sweet. Finish is dry.
9% abv only shows up as a gentle warming in the belly.
Stone saved the best for last.

3.3 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 13/20
Nearly black with medium brown head. Somewhat malty but muted nose. Flavor is a bit rough, some roast, some esters, a little smokey, but doesnt blend all that well.
