COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
As with any good epic, herein lies the promise of larger-than-life experiences, heroics, and twists and turns as the adventure unfolds. This bottle-conditioned ale is chapter eleven. Now is the time to enjoy it in a “vertical” tasting side by side with its ten Stone Vertical Epic Ale brethren! Each one unique to its year of release. Each with its own “twist & turn” in the plot line. Each one released one year, one month and one day from the previous year’s edition. This year’s Stone Vertical Epic Ale is the very last one. Yep, this is it. The final chapter. Or as they say on the last slide in some old films: “Fin.” No worries though: this edition is particularly well-suited for prolonging the experience, as it’s as cellarable as any in the series, or more. In this, the final edition, you can expect a perfectly balance *womp* of spices: cinnamon, ginger, allspice, sweet orange peel, clove (only a little!) and rosehips, all in the context of a dark Belgian style abbey-ish beer…but not as sweet. Dry even. Stone style. Thanks for coming on this Epic Stone-style journey with us! You can rest assured there will be new adventures to come…

I guess I just don't care for spiced beer. I love most all of Stone's products. This spiced ale was NOT for me. MKH---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

It pours black with a dark brown head that produces a fair amount of lacing. The cinnamon, ginger, and allspice are the first things that come through in the aroma. There is a sweet smell that is present it whiffs after that. It has a rich, yet dry flavor with the cinnamon and ginger producing a complex flavor with the allspice combination. There is also roasted malt that is present especially on the palate. Unlike many beers in this alcohol range, the alcohol is not over powering to the point where it effects the overall flavor and taste.

I saw this in a local tobacco and beer place called "Habits" in Salem OR and thought I would take a chance since it was in the fridge. Cost? $3.99 Pours a dark dark brown almost blackcurrant look..nice thick tan head. Nice moderate spicy coriander aspects along with small "barnyard and blackberries in the aroma..very pleasing to the nose. Taste is all of the above with a touch of bitters and very smooth and well melded. Some dark roasted coffee in the end but in balance with the whole. Mouth feel on this is spectacular, smooth oh so silky smooth yet kicks in with some refreshing surprises. Excellent drink..the age seems to have been good for this beer. There is one left..i plan to get it tomorrow.

Dark ruby pour with a big tan head. On the nose there is tons of spice - clove, cinnamon, anise and dark fruits. Flavor is complex ...some roasted malts and chocolate to start and ends with the spices.

2013-02-22 - tasting hosted by blankboy, with gregclow, jercraigs and mabel - bomber c/o ... me!? Pours red/black, almost opaque, with decent creamy tan/light brown head, nice lacing. Aroma is very pleasant - plenty of spice, with citrus and lightly roasted moderately sweet malt, a bit floral - quite a bit going on, hard to pin down - maybe a touch of anise, and a real Belgian yeast character. Taste initially hit my tongue as vegetal, but that settled out quickly - possibly the massive spicing threw me off - and left me with the impression of spicespicespice; cloves, nutmeg, ginger - light roast and floral notes, but it’s mostly about the spice. Average body, really, really astringent from the spice, modest carbonation, long spicy finish - a little over the top, would pair amazingly with a thick beef stew, IMHO.

Hog shack bottle share. Ridiculously dark brown with faint ruby spots and a big rocky tan cap. Aroma is a lot of nutmeg, clove, gingerbread cookies. Taste is spicy bitterness, and sweet. Tingly. Spiced heat finish.

Bottle thanks to Richthevillan at tasting. Black beer with small tan head. Aroma of mulled wine, marmite, licorice and dark fruits. Taste is licorice, coffee, spices, prunes and some earthy notes. Medium bodied and a little oily. Superb.

22 oz bottle. Pours a dark brown with a light beige head that leaves small amount of lacing. Aroma is complex, all notes within context of Belgian yeast. Cloves, ginger, cloves, cinnamon, cloves, orange peel, and cloves. Flavor is same with a sweet spicy finish. Medium bodied. Nice to try once, best to share multiple ways.

Usually not a HUGE fan of Belgian Strong’s, but this is a very good beer that is fairly easy to locate.
