3.5 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 13/20
The pour is a very dark color with red highlights and a moderately full, tan, dense, frothy head which settles to a thin froth and leaves similar lace rings. The nose is like opening a baking spice rack; allspice, cinnamon, orange peel, cardamom, clove, nutmeg, etc., etc., some banana, and some toasty and spicy notes. The flavor is similar to begin with the nutmeg, toasted caramel, clove, toffee, but dry earthy, minerally notes dry out the flavor like eating dry spices; a bit hard to get used to for the style. The palate is decent for the beer despite the dryness; less than lively, more than moderate, velvety, and coating. The finish bone dry, still caramelly, dry spices, spicy cinnamon, and a rare lingering bitterness. I don’t know where to begin with this one, totally different from anything you will try in this style, but that is Stone’s thing. The spicing was overwhelming and over the top but only became overbearing by the dryness of the finish. Different and unusual but not Stone’s best work.

Tap at BD Shepherds Bush. Pours very dark brown with a firm tan head leaving great lacing. Nose is full of spices focusing on cinnamon and cardamon. Very earthy with a hint of squash and rosemary. Balanced though. Taste is a perfect balance between milk chocolate and cinnamon. Absolutely spot on. Spices never over power and roast is always in check. Really well made beer. Love it

On tap at BrewDog Manchester. Near black shade with a tan head. Aroma filled with winter spice. Taste has waves of dark maltiness and lots more Christmassy spice notes. I normally have little problem with heavy spiced beers but they were a bit overdone here for me.

Keg at Brewdog Brum. Buttery, orange, marzipan, dried fruit (slight). A malty, dark beast. Leavened by fruit. Appropriate for the time of year. Nice. Super rich.

3.6 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 13/20
Pours opaque dark brown with a sheet of mocha foam. Smells really, really spicy. Nutmeg and allspice, cinnamon, cloves (stronger than I had anticipated), some floral notes and it all comes together to smell like tee tree oil. Tastes sweet and spiced - the aforementioned collage comes into play, the malts are charred, sweet and accented with a classical belgian yeast character. Medium to full bodied with lighter carb, the beer has a really fine feel. This is an interesting beer, I think it falls into a well done example of the style.

3 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 3/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 14/20
Strange cat... Aroma is overwhelmed with spice: nutmeg, cinnamon, clove, etc... There are undertones of burnt orange and... metal? Taste is weighted towards bitter with some light sweet/sour/salt. Palate is a low point... thick, oily, bitter, and too much clover in the nose. Fascinating brew but won’t buy again.

Bottle. Pours dark opaque amber with a thin layer of toffee colored head. Aroma of nutmeg and what definitely hints toward Old Bay or some other spice. Taste of spice, earth, and wood.

can smell the spices and high alcohol...mainly smells of dark fruit like plum...taste is very bold with dark fruits and slight spices, mostly ginger and allspice? Good taste but flavor is just a tad too bold...a bit hard to drink without a meal

Near black with a tan head. Aroma is spices -cinnamon, nutmeg, coriander, and chocolate. Taste of Belgian candy sugar, spices as above, and ash? Hmm interesting and alcohol very well hidden.

Pours inky black with a moderate dark brown head. Aroma is ginerbread, cinnamon and nutmeg. Taste is boozy still, cinnamon, nutmeg and a small toasted malt. Interesting.
