COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Who knew a worldwide hop shortage in 2008 would give rise to such a memorable, delicious beer? When it came time to craft a commemorative offering for our 12th anniversary, we decided to trade in the bitterness of hops for the bitterness of unsweetened chocolate, and paired that with flaked oats. Featuring a thick, rich, roasty mouthfeel and chocolate-heavy flavors and aromas, this onyx-colored, malt-forward beauty became an instant classic that shares space on our liquid trophy case alongside our hop-focused fan favorites. Rebrewed for our 20th Anniversary Encore Series.

Hops: Summit, Willamette, Galena & Ahtanum

Great chocolate stout! Big on dark chocolate and roasted coffee flavor. I would say its on par with the Imperial Russian Stout but lots more chocolate. The high alcohol is an added bonus but you wont notice it!

Sample from a bottle at the Stone tasting in Tallahassee. This one has a striking aroma of deep roasted chocolate that really stands out. Rich and smooth with more chocolate in the flavor. I really enjoyed this one, outstanding beer.

ok, i had this beer once, and it was some time ago. it was probally one of my favorite brews of all time for dark ales. i rembered it poured thick and black with an off white head that had the most awsome smell and aroma. could taste chocolate, malt and hops all combined with the perfect proportions. if i could have this again, i would buy it in an instant. great brew from stone!!

Pours black as night with a chocolate brown edge, beautiful brown head. Huge aroma of deep roast, lots of chocolate and a little coffee. Very bold taste. Dark and bitter as it looks, chewy mouthfeel. Dark chocolate is very obvious and compliments to roast very well. Awesome beer.

Bottle at a tasting: oatmeal porridge, milk chocolate, bitter chocolate, sweet malt, roasted malt, honey, mild coffee, cocca notes, some charred wood, weak smoked meat, delicate hops lingers through, great aftertaste, very blanced mellow and refined imperial stout.

I had this when it was first released and now again two years later. I have to say with the age on it, this stuff is amazing. Extremely smoky aroma and flavor, with hints of coffee and chocolate. As malty as this is the bitter finish is a plus. If you can still find this pick it up, well worth it!

Bottle. Pours a very dark brown color with a moderate brown head on there. Nose is quite roasty with a bit of chocolate and a hint of oats. Taste is sweet and roasty with hints of cocoa. Really tasty and smooth.

Pours deep sable with a thick, dark chocolaty tan head. Aroma presents roast malt, semi-sweet chocolate, and subtle molasses and toffee tones. Flavor delivers bitter chocolate, roast malt, toffee, molasses, and a little evergreen wood - must be hops, giving this a bit of a black IPA feel. Firm, smooth mouthfeel features good fizz and a nice roast malt, chocolaty and slightly smoky finish. Encore, encore!

On tap at Brewski 140516. Fantastic beer that tastes as good as it looks and smells. Deep black in colour with a high bitterness level that reminds me of bitter dark chocolate. Smooth and goes down a treat.
