22oz bottle. Aroma: Oatmeal, cocoa powder, coffee, light alcohol, smoke. Some spicey and citrus hop notes. Appearance: Black in color and opaque. Dark tan head was large and creamy with fair retention. Small, spotty lacing. Flavor: Lots of roasted malt flavors (Coffee, smoke, light anise). More chocolate in the nose, but a good chocolate note shines through. Some hot alcohol flavor as it warms. Grassy and pine hop notes into the finish. Bitterness plays nicely against all the malt flavors. Slightly sweet finish. Palate: Full bodied and very smooth. Medium carbonation. Significant alcohol warming in mouth and chest. Overall: Nice beer. Mouthfeel was perfect. Rich and smooth with just the right level of carbonation. Alcohol was a little hot.

I think this was bottled in 2008?? bottle recd in trade. Age treated this VERY well. Aroma was subtle - not the roast others got, there was some chocolate and slight alcohol. black pour of course. taste was smooov - OATS!! with the bitter chocolate and also creaminess; GREAT beer!

Bottled. Tucked away in the closet for the past 5 years, got some age on it. Pours silky black with minimal carbonation. Aroma of anise, dark fruit and chocolate. There is a slight character of wet cardboard/band-aid that I take as slight oxidation. Flavor is tasty sweet and smoky up front with tones of coffee and chocolates underneath. Fades rather quickly and overall seems a bit thin. Could be the age. More strange funk notes on the end of the flavor profile. Medium mouthfeel. Pretty good; I really wish I would have rated it fresh.

Thanks Frostyone! bottle pours deep black with a small light foamy brown head. Nose is moderate fruits with primarily plums, and ripe peaches. Also aroma is complex with almost a sticky sweet burnt coffee with mild grilled chocolate bars. Flacor is some smooth sweet sugary malts and bitter, and mildly acidic roast notes. Dark chocolate come through nicely but is masked slightly by bitter hops. Lovely at 4 years old.

22 ounce bottle. Pours a dark brown with a lighter brown head. Aroma is big chocolate cake with a nice toasty caramel touch. Taste is more of the same. Age has done this beer very well.

22oz bottle, shared by brew3crew. Dark brown more clear color. Thin lighter brown head, couple dots of lace. Big, chewy texture. Bigger body. Lighter carbonation. Very interesting herbal raw mint leaf aroma. Dark chocolate, light oatmeal. Good bitterness, light bitter sweet. Very light alcohol in the finish. Very light coffee note. Still drinking good. Very happy for the opportunity to try this.

Bomber to snifter (shared by brew3crew). Looks good; a fairly opaque black with sticky beige lacing. Smells solid; dark malt and chocolate with a bit of mint and oxidization. Tastes like it smells with a good mouthfeel. Enjoyable.

22 oz. bottle served in a Deschutes snifter. Thanks stxSS07 for the share. A: Pours a dark black color with a dark mocha head forming on the pour. It recedes quickly to a thin ring that leaves some splotchy lace down the glass. S: Some oxidation as you would expect, but in a sherry kind of way. No real paper or cardboard notes, but slightly dark and pretty fruity. Dark chocolate bitterness with some dried oats. T: Much like the nose. Bitter dark chocolate, steel cut oats, light dark fruit with minimal oxidation. The booze is well hidden behind a touch a char. M: Medium thick bodied with a lower carbonation level. Smooth and creamy finish. O: This held up very nicely and the slight oxidation gave it a dark fruit character that complimented the bitter dark chocolate nicely. Serving type: bottle

Bottle from trade with Hop20, cheers buddy! Pitch black with a dark brown head. Aroma: chocolate mousse, coffee, dark fruit, licorice. Taste: loads of licorice, cocoa, dark wine gums, coffee, milk chocolate, oatmeal cookies with raisins, creamy. Full-bodied, smooth. Man, this is so delicious! If this was bitter from the chocolate when it was released, then instead time has made it very smooth and well-balanced. Thanks again for suggesting this!
