grant (767), Martinez, California, USA Aug 26, 2008 Dark, cloudy brown, shy crema head. Medium roasted coffee, dark chocolate and raisins in aroma, very earthy. Initially creamy and full, round feel, switching into a fully roasty flavor, tons of roast here, but not ashen. Like sipping espresso and eating some good dark chocolate at the same time, all with a bit of tartness. Full and effusive, nicely done. Long lasting, moderately bittered finished.
Cletus (3602), Connecticut, USA Jan 6, 2009 Pours dark brown with a nice tan head. Smells of chocolate, pepper, roasted malt, some dark fruit. Tastes bitter and caramelly with some nice chocolatey hints on the finish. Another great beer from a great brewer. Ron (789), Rochester, New York, USA Jan 5, 2009 Pours dark brown with big brown head. Aroma is of chocolate, roasted malt and alcohol. Flavor has a bitter bite up front with chocolate, alcohol and coffee. Nice mouth feel with bite on the finish as well. gwpom (213), Akron, New York, USA Jan 4, 2009 Bomber. As it pours out black as midnight on a moonless night, a thin brown head forms which hangs for a while, and I can tell already this is something special. When a beer can be mistaken for motor oil.... good. The first taste, there is the bitterness. Clinging to the tongue like a parka in winter in buffalo. I’ve had some chocolates where the chocolate is overpowering the beer flavor, but not so here. It is there, to be sure, but in the background, hiding the ABV. The label on the back reads of a diary of a world without hops. Oh well... give me this, and I’ll be happy. BillWyce (47), Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, USA Jan 3, 2009 Pours a thick, inky black with a small
light brown head. Aroma mostly of
chocolate or cocoa with a thick sweetness behind it. Surprisingly smooth. Very tart at first, giving way to a smooth, slightly malty taste that blooms to a chocolatey finish. excellent. yankeefan21 (80), USA Jan 3, 2009 Pours like motor oil with a thin coffee colored head. It smells slightly sweet with a hint of the chocolate waiting for you. The first taste is a contrast of sweet malts with bitter dark chocolate. The finish leaves your tongue dry - like after eating bakers chocolate - forcing you to take the next sip. This was a very good beer - probably for after a chocolaty dessert. I would purchase this again but I still think I like the Ommegang Chocolate Indulgence Stout just a bit more.
