COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Who knew a worldwide hop shortage in 2008 would give rise to such a memorable, delicious beer? When it came time to craft a commemorative offering for our 12th anniversary, we decided to trade in the bitterness of hops for the bitterness of unsweetened chocolate, and paired that with flaked oats. Featuring a thick, rich, roasty mouthfeel and chocolate-heavy flavors and aromas, this onyx-colored, malt-forward beauty became an instant classic that shares space on our liquid trophy case alongside our hop-focused fan favorites. Rebrewed for our 20th Anniversary Encore Series.

Hops: Summit, Willamette, Galena & Ahtanum

Pours black with nice pillow of clingy cocoa foam. Looks like its gonna be super chocolaty, but... aroma has only the faintest note of dark chocolate, more dominated by rolled oats and fantastic roast. Smells great but subdued. Flavor likewise is absolutely delicious, with some sweetness at the front. While the dark baker’s chocolate is detectable in the mix, it’s not prominent, with again some very tasty roasted malt and classic oat. Extra smooth mouthfeel and a semi-bitter finish make fast work of this bomber.

[tap in Jabeerwockie, Warsaw]
Appearance: deep black, with very small ruby/brown clearences. Head brownish, small bubles, long lasted, nice.
Aroma: Good... Intensive roasted notes: ash, chocolate, coffee, with some smoked hints. A little sweet caramel (raisins, bread, biscuits, burnt sugar). rich malty flavour without strange elements.
Taste: Compatible with aroma. On first plan roasty notes: coffee, milk chocolate, a little bit ashy. On back: sweet malts, grain, biscuit, a little bit of nut, vanillia and muscavido. Taste wasn’t very intensive, rather bottom of style...
mouthfeel and bitterness As Imperial Stout - body was rather light, thin, watery, creamy. I missed oily and rich texture... Bitterness was medium-high, balanced, a little bit of taninns, but acceptable.
Overall
Pretty good, but not intensive. I expected a little more taste, but I can’t say I was dissapointed. Drink and forget, nothing fancy.

A dark, viscous pour with a thick reddish-caramelized colored head. The head retains well. Dark roasted mildly sweet malt nose. A bit smoky. Thick texture. Drinks boldly with a lot of dark roasted malt and chocolate flavors. Finishes mostly chocolaty.
