COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Stone 13th Anniversary Ale pours brilliant deep red with a light tan foam. Up front, the aroma is all piney, resinous and citrus hops. Upon tasting, the hops are still on the front, and they are balanced with the malty, toffee like flavors contributed from the blend of crystal and amber malts used in the brewhouse. The finish is deliciously bitter, with a touch of warmth provided by the 9.5% alcohol. Bitterness comes in at 90+ IBU.

Clear medium to dark amber color with a small, virtually none appearance, virtually none lacing, fully diminishing, beige head. Aroma is moderate to heavy malty, roasted, caramel, moderate to light heavy hoppy, citrus - orange. Flavor is light heavy sweet and bitter with a average to long duration. Body is medium, texture is oily, carbonation is soft, finish feel is moderate alcoholic. [20090905]

From tap at the Stone Bistro. Pours dark brown with a small tan head. Distinct hoppy, sharp and very aromatic nose. Smooth fruity, light hoppy sharpness and with a smooth malt base. Crisp and fruity with a solid fruity hoppy flavoured finish. Lovely.

Draft. A chestnut colored beer with a thin beige head. The aroma has notes of malt and hops which lends it notes of grass, grapefruits, and lemons. The flavor is sweet with notes of malt, caramel, and spices, leading to a very bitter finish.

On tap. Courtesy of DrBill. Beautiful warm reddish brown with a creamy, beige head. Fantastic spicy aroma hops in the nose. Full-bodied with a very solid malt base of roasted malts, burned caramel and nuts. Intensely perfumy aroma hops in the finish. Very delicious. 070709

Bottled (thanks omhper!). Ruby colour, small head. Aroma is hops, sticky alcohol, more hops and alcohol. Flavour is rather much the same. Very Stone-like hoppy super IPA, but sadly I don’t like this type of hoppyness in a beer...

Bottle at Theis og Mette. Cloudy red brown coloured with a small off white head. Fruity aroma of hay, grass, dried fruits, hops and pine needles. Fruity flavour of caramel, grass, hops and pine needles with notes of dried fruits. Dry hoppy finish.

Bottled. Dark brown, rich but brief head. Powerful perfumy pink grapefruit aroma, Sweet, but slick and slimmer than anticipated from a 9.5% brew. Grapefruity hops dominate together with licorice. Very bitter finish. The sweetness and enormous hop content hide the alcohol well.

2010-02-19, bottle from Systembolaget, 9-5-8-5-16=43
Dark color; huge head, thick and persistent, with beautiful lace. Old school aroma, straight but solid, perfumy and resiny hops, and caramel; also sweaty hop cones. The flavor is based on the caramel, without much residual sweetness; the hopping, resiny and piney, is powerful and satisfactory; it has an average body strength and a pleasant final warmth due to the alcohol.
Excellent. It should have more body to aspire to higher peaks.

2009-10-18, draught at Ginger Man, NYC, 9-5-8-5-16=43
Dark amber color, reddish. Mature and cheesy aroma, captivating. Strong body, strong caramel flavor, just some sweetness but not too much, alcohol warmth (actually pleasant). Strong bitterness, some resins in the palate. In the end it reminds me amaro (digestive liquor). Very good.

Slight haze on this dark brown beer. Some hop on the nose. Soft palate - smooth. Deep rich hops bit not too bitter harsh. Subtle caramel malt underneath and then a little sweet pineapple. Finishes soft and a little dry with the marmalade rich hops taking over again. Some bitterness in the aftertaste. Fine beer!
