COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
We’ve been loving creating Collaboration beers with great creative brewers from all over the world these last several years-unique beers that would never have existed without the free-flowing imagination and idea generation of the collaborative process. However, when it comes to the Stone Anniversary Ales, it’s all us. Yet, it is indeed still a collaboration with great creative brewers (if we do say so ourselves). We’re talking about our own brewing team, of course. And while some of our beers, anniversary and otherwise, have been designed by a single person, the Stone 16th Anniversary IPA was definitely a team effort.

This year our brewing team was inspired by some exotic-ish additions of the lemony persuasion. Yes, it’s a Double IPA (can you really say you’re surprised?), but as we strive to do with all our Stone Anniversary Ales of the let’s-take-this-IPA-in-a-new-direction variety, we’ve brewed up a Stone-worthy divergence from tradition. The amount of rye malt we used isn’t quite enough to warrant the appellation "Rye IPA," but it still adds hints of spiciness that contrast deliciously with the tropical fruit flavors and aromas of the Amarillo and Calypso hops. Add a few European specialty malts, some lemon verbena, and three more hop varieties to the mix, and you have a highly complex brew melding both bitter and fruity hop notes with rich toasted malt character punctuated by nuances of spicy rye and subtle lemon.

(Bottle) Pours pale amber with a creamy sand coloured head. The aroma holds orange, lemon, earth, pine soap, minerals, bread and rye. The flavour is light sweet, medium bitter and tiny acidic with tones of citrus, pine, rye and balanced malt. The mouthfeel is is pretty tight, clean and tiny astringent with a medium carbonanation. Citric and light rye-like finish. Medium bodied.

Presentation: It was poured from a brown 22 oz bottle into a tulip glass. The label lists the abv at 10 % and there is a nice discretion of the beer. Appearance: The beer has a deep honey amber color with a slight haze. It builds a tall just off white head on top which hangs on well and clings to the glass making lots of cool lacing. Smell: The aroma is full of loads of bright lemony citrus and well...hops. (Classic Stone IPA) Taste / Palate: The flavor is full of hops from start to finish. First up are the citrus and tropical notes with a spicy malty bready base. This fades into herbal and pine like hop notes with slow fading bitterness in the finish. Notes: Hang on to the hops roller coaster its going to be a bitter good ride.

A dense blond top, atop a clear deep orange golden body. Intense caramel malt aroma, balanced by a rich citrussy and resiny hop nose. Not very full, considering the high abv. Smooth and warm in the mouth. Taste is like the achetypical big US IPA, Bold fruity and resiny hop bitterness, intense and rich caramel-accented malt base. Oh yes, this is a good one. From notes. Wonderful fruity aroma, mango, peaches, nectarines, papaya, apricot. Taste is more tropical fruits, grapefruit, bittersweet, caramel malts, alcohol. A very solid beer by stone.

Golden color, attractive. The hops hold up reasonably well, actually, though I can imagine that they’re still muted as against a fresh bottle. Lemon comes through and once again I’m not a huge fan of the influence of rye. Bottle.

From beer fridge....been there too long so most of hops are gone....interesting to get the taste without all the hoppiness,,,,the rye, lemon, and malts leave behind an interesting, tasty brew....don’t recommend it as a usual course but still interesting

(Bottle) Hazy amber colour with lasting, frothy, off-white head, leaving traces of lacing. Fruity, hoppy nose with citrus, tropical fruit, apricots, pine needles, orange marmalade, rye bread, mango, passion fruit and hints of fresh ginger. Malty, fruity hoppy taste with notes of lemon peel, grapefruit, orange marmalade, resin, apricots, pine needles, rye bread, tropical fruit and an impressive citric, resinous bitterness in the finish. Almost full body, with soft and chewy malt. Quite sweet. Solid and impressive DIPA (as expected from these guys). Lovely beer!

Another DIPA from Stone, amazing how they find new ways to brew a big hoppy ale, but they do, credit to them. Nice aroma, massively citrusy, great color and lacing. Tropical fruit is first and foremost in the flavor, really nice, almost New Zealand IPA like. Yum

Pours orange yellow some fleeting head and lace. Aroma is lemon, pine, starfruit...just OK. Flavor is fairly sweet, light lemon, spicy grapefruit, bracing pith bitter finish. Feel is slick and sticky. Kind of underwhelming though a nicely different hop fix.
