3.7 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20
THOUGHTS: Just enough rye in ti to add a red tint to the color and a bit of spiciness to the flavor. The lemon was quickly overpowered by the resinous hops and spicy rye.
TECHNICAL: Bottle. Poured a clear, medium, reddish amber with and average, off-white head that mostly diminished and left good lacing. The aroma had moderate caramel and spicy rye; heavy pine, resin, lemon, and tropical fruit hops; slight mint hops; lemon; and herbs. The initial flavor was moderately sweet and bitter; while the finish was heavily sweet and bitter with a long duration. There was caramel, spicy rye, cake, some fruit, lemon, resinous hops, tropical fruits, metallic hops, pine hops, hints of mint hops, and toasted malt. The medium to full body was fairly oily and sticky on the lips with tingly carbonation and a dry, metallic and moderately alcoholic finish.

Transfer from BA review on 11-27-12-
Served on tap in a 10 oz snifter glass
Appearance – Served an orange colored brew with a two finger off white head. The head was rather thin with it maintaining its composure for only a short time before fading to give a light level of lacing.
Smell – The aroma is heaviest of some sweeter fruit smells of tropical fruits as well as a strong presence of some grapefruit and sweeter tangerine hop. Along with the citrus hop is a nice presence of a light pine and light floral hop aroma.
Taste – The taste begins with a bready flavor with some caramel and light fruit sweetness. There is a lighter citrus grapefruit hop flavor up front. While it is light initially the citrus get quite strong as the taste advances, bittering it quite a bit. More toward the end a pine taste enters the taste. This is accompanied by some caramel flavors which also come to the tongue more toward the end. These flavors all mingle quite well to give a pleasant hopped taste on the tongue.
Mouthfeel – The body of the beer was on the slightly above average side with a carbonation level that was a bit below average. Both were quite nice for the hop flavors and bready flavors of the beer as they allowed all the hop tastes to soak into the tongue.
Overall – A rather tasty brew. Decently balanced for a stronger IPA. Well worth a try.

4.6 AROMA 10/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 18/20
Presentation: It was poured from a brown 22 oz bottle into a tulip glass. The label lists the abv at 10 % and there is a nice discretion of the beer.
Appearance: The beer has a deep honey amber color with a slight haze. It builds a tall just off white head on top which hangs on well and clings to the glass making lots of cool lacing.
Smell: The aroma is full of loads of bright lemony citrus and well...hops. (Classic Stone IPA)
Taste / Palate: The flavor is full of hops from start to finish. First up are the citrus and tropical notes with a spicy malty bready base. This fades into herbal and pine like hop notes with slow fading bitterness in the finish. Notes: Hang on to the hops roller coaster its going to be a bitter good ride.

3.8 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
A dense blond top, atop a clear deep orange golden body. Intense caramel malt aroma, balanced by a rich citrussy and resiny hop nose. Not very full, considering the high abv. Smooth and warm in the mouth. Taste is like the achetypical big US IPA, Bold fruity and resiny hop bitterness, intense and rich caramel-accented malt base. Oh yes, this is a good one. Golden color, attractive. The hops hold up reasonably well, actually, though I can imagine that they’re still muted as against a fresh bottle. Lemon comes through and once again I’m not a huge fan of the influence of rye. Bottle.

From beer fridge....been there too long so most of hops are gone....interesting to get the taste without all the hoppiness,,,,the rye, lemon, and malts leave behind an interesting, tasty brew....don’t recommend it as a usual course but still interesting

4 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
(Bottle) Hazy amber colour with lasting, frothy, off-white head, leaving traces of lacing. Fruity, hoppy nose with citrus, tropical fruit, apricots, pine needles, orange marmalade, rye bread, mango, passion fruit and hints of fresh ginger. Malty, fruity hoppy taste with notes of lemon peel, grapefruit, orange marmalade, resin, apricots, pine needles, rye bread, tropical fruit and an impressive citric, resinous bitterness in the finish. Almost full body, with soft and chewy malt. Quite sweet. Solid and impressive DIPA (as expected from these guys). Lovely beer!

Another DIPA from Stone, amazing how they find new ways to brew a big hoppy ale, but they do, credit to them. Nice aroma, massively citrusy, great color and lacing. Tropical fruit is first and foremost in the flavor, really nice, almost New Zealand IPA like. Yum
