COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Our latest anniversary beer, starring an all-German cast of malt and hops, is yet one more glorious example of a Stone IPA brewed outside the box. Our brewers have brought their experiments with German hops to fruition, leaving convention behind to create this hefty IPA entirely with pilsner malts. These provide a superbly crisp mouthfeel, while a unique mix of noble and new-school hop varieties adds layers of bright, bitter flavors. Despite the daunting name, this beer isn’t designed to bring about the end of the world, but it just might destroy some of your preconceived notions of what an IPA can be.

Hops bill: Bitter-hopped with Magnum Late kettle additions: Herkules, Merkur and Opal Whirlpool: Emerald (aka Smaragd) and Strisselspalt from the Alsace region of France, which is just a stone’s throw across the Rhine from the German border. Dry-hopped with a 50/50 blend of German Hersbrucker and Sterling

Malt bill: Weyerman Pilsner Malt, Briess GoldPils Vienna

22oz bottle poured into a tulip glass. Golden blind color with a small white head. Nose is spruce, pine, grass, very bright with a nice creamy balance. Notes of vanilla and caramel compliment the hoppy bitterness. The alcohol is very well hidden. Nice beer

Bomber pours a hazy golden orange with thin lacing. Aromas of grapefruit and citrus hops. Spicy hop flavor lingers with a bitter finish. Very tastey.

Bomber pours a hazy orange with small off-white head and good lacing. Aroma has lots of citrus, melons, and pine resin. Taste is bitter with some caramel sweetness in the middle and a somewhat dank aftertaste with no alcohol burn. Body is medium to full with slight carbonation and a surprisingly crisp mouthfeel. This was a nice substantial surprise which I’d gladly try again.

22oz bottle. Pours bright melon orange with wispy white head. Big white bubbles mixed with tight little bubbles. Aroma is mostly hops leaning toward resiny. Grassy and piney, citrus hops. Chewy body and dry finish. Easy to drink and no real alcohol heat.

Hazy bright orange pour with a frothy white head, good lacing. Aroma is pine and lemon. Flavor is strong grapefruit, pine and large hops, most notably Magnum hops. Finish is soft, only slight alcohol presence and moderate bitterness. Excellent double.

Draft. Hazy straw yellow with a white head. Sweet fruits and citrus hops in the nose. Pine, lemon rind and some floral hop bitterness. Works well.

Nice consistency, but pale color belies the body. Mild smell for Stone with different hop smell. Great mouthfeel with lasting palate, but flavor doesn’t suit me. better than most, but no comparison to other Stone brews.

Honey and starch, pissy citrus hops aromas. Cloudy yellow color. This beer has a rather straightforward bitterness across the board, although the finish is a softer mellow malt. As such I didn’t find it nearly as astringent as many of Stone’s other big ales. There isn’t any lasting ill effects on the palate...the stomach however...If you are looking for a high toned but light bodied and balanced IPA, this is a fine one.

Bottle from Belmont Station. Pours a beautiful gold with white foam. Smells crisp, sweet, spicy and slightly citrusy. Surprisingly full bodied. Tastes sweet, lemony, piney and more balanced than I’d expect from Stone.
