COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Our latest anniversary beer, starring an all-German cast of malt and hops, is yet one more glorious example of a Stone IPA brewed outside the box. Our brewers have brought their experiments with German hops to fruition, leaving convention behind to create this hefty IPA entirely with pilsner malts. These provide a superbly crisp mouthfeel, while a unique mix of noble and new-school hop varieties adds layers of bright, bitter flavors. Despite the daunting name, this beer isn’t designed to bring about the end of the world, but it just might destroy some of your preconceived notions of what an IPA can be.

Hops bill: Bitter-hopped with Magnum Late kettle additions: Herkules, Merkur and Opal Whirlpool: Emerald (aka Smaragd) and Strisselspalt from the Alsace region of France, which is just a stone’s throw across the Rhine from the German border. Dry-hopped with a 50/50 blend of German Hersbrucker and Sterling

Malt bill: Weyerman Pilsner Malt, Briess GoldPils Vienna

This beer pours a clear pale orange color with a medium foamy off-white head that diminishes gradually to an outer ring. Partial rings of lacing on the glass. Aroma of hops, citrus and minty spice. Medium-bodied with flavors of citrusy hops, toasted malt and spice. The finish is moderately bitter with a zesty citrus and spicy hops aftertaste. Pretty good overall.

Bomber. Pours a crystal clear golden orange with a decent head and interesting aromas. I’m so used to American hops blasting their way into my sinuses and across my palate in IPAs that this one took me by surprise. It has a little bit of an orange and grass odor, but it’s kinda subtle. Flavor is much more interesting, though, with a little bit of honey bun sweetness, some orange blossom and a little grass and resin. I would definitely say that I prefer the American hop profile to this, but it is definitely interesting. Something doesn’t quite work here, and it comes across as a little bit landfill-like at times. That flavor is a very ephemeral one that I can barely detect at times, but at others it seems a little more dominant. Other times it is completely absent and I find myself enjoying the sip. It’s an odd beer, but definitely worth a try.

Bottle from The Common Market. Pours a clear orange color with a white head. Aroma of resinous hops and a slight bit of grape. Taste is subtly bitter but even across the palate.

A- pours a clear and smooth golden orange with a finger of off-white head. S- aromas of pungent orange blossom, grapefruit, flower petals, honey, bready malts, fresh cut grass, and wet pine needles. M- a medium palate that is somewhat creamy with a tacky end. Body is also medium with a decent carbonation. T- resin and citrus hops to start. Lemon and grapefruit. Bread malts and a powerful orange juice come in next. Faint peppery spice as well. Some dry and bitter herbal, earthy and grapefruit notes in the end. Mild soap and slightly vegetal as well.

Bottle... Poured amber-golden/orange with a moderate forming off-white head. Nice retention. Hops on the nose that came off earthy, herbal, and vegetal like. Hops offered a nice spice here, somewhat resinous but mostly vegetal and earthy. Not floral and perfumy. Some bitterness and bread-like malt tones and some sweetness considering the high abv. Wasn’t sure what to expect going into this one, but I’d buy it again.

Very unusual beer. Appearance is more like a pilsner, bright and bubbly. Hops are subdued on the nose, alcohol very well hidden in taste. I really enjoyed it! ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

A new realm in IPA's.. Big, rich and full bodied. Layers of florals, orange citrus, honey and sweet bread. Aromas and flavors truly reminiscent of jasmine tea with honey... Seriously! Balanced bitterness, which compliments the sweet malt backbone. Very enjoyable. A must try. --- tasted while on a long journey to understand the world around me...

Bomber from Whole Foods Charlottesville. Pours a clear amber color with a large frothy tan head. Good head retention. Aroma of snappy, herbal hops and pale malts. The taste is spicy, herbal, fruity hops, toasted caramel malts. Medium bodied, lingering bitterness. Solid beer.

Sweet and smooth with flavors of peaches, hops, caramel, booze, and citrus. Very sweet yet hoppy finish. I like, but it is boozy- be prepared!

Not much more to say on this one, one smooth double IPA. Buttery, velvety texture and taste. Malt comes through, not covered by, but in concert with the hops. Very well done indeed.
