Our latest anniversary beer, starring an all-German cast of malt and hops, is yet one more glorious example of a Stone IPA brewed outside the box. Our brewers have brought their experiments with German hops to fruition, leaving convention behind to create this hefty IPA entirely with pilsner malts. These provide a superbly crisp mouthfeel, while a unique mix of noble and new-school hop varieties adds layers of bright, bitter flavors. Despite the daunting name, this beer isn’t designed to bring about the end of the world, but it just might destroy some of your preconceived notions of what an IPA can be.

Hops bill: Bitter-hopped with Magnum Late kettle additions: Herkules, Merkur and Opal Whirlpool: Emerald (aka Smaragd) and Strisselspalt from the Alsace region of France, which is just a stone’s throw across the Rhine from the German border. Dry-hopped with a 50/50 blend of German Hersbrucker and Sterling

Malt bill: Weyerman Pilsner Malt, Briess GoldPils Vienna

On tap at the Brick Store Pub. Pours a clear medium amber color with a frothy tan head. Aroma of sweet tropical fruits, toffee, resin, and citrus. Taste is much like the nose. Pineapple, resin, citrus, and a sweet malt backbone. Loads of bitter hops. A nice resinous bitter dry finish. Gotta love some Stone!!! #350 Woo Hoo!

Bottle. Pours clear golden with a frothy white head. Aroma is pine, caramel, cereal, hops, floral, grass, earthy and alcohol. Taste is very bitter and medium sweet. Awesome! This is different, but great. Full bodied, oily texture and average carbonation.

8/31/2013, 9/09/2013, and 9/20/2013: Stone 17th Anniversary Götterdämmerung IPA... Aroma: Amazing FRESH and JUICY aroma of Mandarin orange, sugary ripened pineapple, pine, hay, and strawberries. Appearance: Beautiful golden-copper hue with an ample head of thick, beige foam. Flavor: Loaded with Noble hops _grassy, floral, spicy) and finishes with a nice amount of pine; actually, PINE runs throughout; the underlying toffee maltiness is augmented with a bit of honeycomb-flavored maltiness as well and overall the it stays well out of the way of the hops; ample bitterness throughout; clean and crisp; stong and just slightly warming, but the alcohol surprisingly stays will-hidden considering its strength. Palate: Medium to medium-full body; silky smooth and slightly creamy. Overall: Simply amazing and ABSOLUTELY DELICIOUS; I’ve had the privilege of sharing in several growlers of this beer and cannot get enough of it; I only wish that it has substantially less alcohol. Draught (growler fills) at Party Town in Florence, KY. Rating #388 for this beer.

Poured into tulip. Pours a golden amber, with a small head. Fair amount of cO2. Aroma is of citrus like most Stones. At first taste is of citrus with a bready second. Mouth feel is a wonderful cremey texture. Finish is a pine bitter. Wonderful.

Not a whole lot of hops in the aroma. Looks fine. The flavor is quite good with some pine to it. A dry pilsener like finish. Pretty tasty.

Another beer confirming my love of Stone and hops. Pours a bright yellowish orange with a nice compact white head, slightly hazed. Aroma is a big burst of floral hops with a note of citrus. Flavor is graham accented malts that are just enough to keep the hop onslaught in balance. Hops initially are floral and a touch citric. The citrus is odd in such a Germanic hop beer, but as it warms, the citrus disappears, replaced by a slightly medicinal herbal note that plays well with the floral characteristics displayed here. Really nice stuff, great beer. Wouldn’t mind at all if this made its way into the regular line-up like Sublimely Self-Righteous did.

Bomber. Pours honey-colored, translucent, good lacing, medium head, very nice looking (cool name, too). The aroma is very good, appetizing, and matches the style and taste very very well. I actually agree with the description as far as the taste and palate goes, except it’s just a little too rough on the aftertaste in my opinion. Other than that, I love the German malts & hops, it tastes very "put-together" and is one of my new favorite DIPAs.

Wife poured this for me, haven’t had a stone in a while. Aroma is citrus and dank at the same time, yum. Poured so cloudy I was surprised. But it cleared up over time. Nice head and lacing. The bitterness is really pleasant. Flavor of grapefruit and finished danky. Palate is clean and finishes a bit dry and sticky. Really nice Belgium touch to an IPA.

So big, full-bodied, flavorful. Plenty of malt sweetness without being cloying. Plenty of hop bitterness without the pucker factor. Just want to sit and sip a while. Yum!!

Pours golden orange with white head. Citrus, hop, grass, floral and some alcohol aroma and flavors. Medium body and sweet mouthfeel. Bitter citrus finish.
