COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Released September 2000 - both bottles and kegs. Brewed to celebrate the 4th Anniversary of the Stone Brewing Co. Identical recipe of the always-available Stone IPA, but with 3+ times the hops (we couldn't actually put four times the hops in and still get beer back out...). 100+ IBU's (International Bitterness Units). The human palate can taste up to the 75-90 IBU range.

On tap @ Stone Winter Storm 2008. Poured a brilliant hazed golden color with an orange hue. Head was off white and small with not much lacing. Aroma was lighter than expected, more citrus dominated. Thick and malty mouth feel, hops more prevalent on the finish, an awesome brew.

Bottle enjoyed at the 2008 Stone Winter Storm Appearance is a cloudy orange hue, minimal head dissipates quickly, and no lacing of note Smell is big piney hops, some slight citrus and honey sweetness, nice malt background Taste is smooth chewy hops, followed by sugary sweetness and subtle pale malts, very slight oxidation and alcohol presence in the finish, the hops are amazingly solid and flavorful after 7 years Mouthfeel is full-bodied, oily and thick texture, and ample carbonation Drinkability is high, this is a very well-aged IPA/DIPA (8.5%) with a great hop profile that has stood up well over time, the alcohol is well-masked and the flavors are unique and refreshing, it was interesting to compare this to the 4th on tap which was sweeter and less hoppy, absolutely one of the top Stone beers of the day

Bottle. Cloudy orange-tan body. The aroma has candied oranges, leather, pear and orange rind. Lots of musty, cheesy hops. The flavor has an aged quality, meaning the predominant flavor (hops of course!) has that same mustiness. Otherwise thereís grapefruit, maple wood, and some gentle caramel. This beer is very enjoyable, I like how age has made it a smooth drink as well as giving it interesting charactersistics. Thanks to Jason for sharing his bottle!

UPDATED: JUL 14, 2008 This may be my favorite stone beer of all-time.... Itís a shame I only had 2 bottles. Pours a deep golden orange with aromas similar to a barleywine.... Hops smelled old, but appetizing and aromas of bananas were also there. Flavors of old hops, a little vanilla, with a wonderful mouth feel. I am glad that this brew stood up to age as it did, because I had an 03.03.03 the other night that changed for the worst.

Soury fermented fruit and citrus w/ hints of flowers on the nose... Soury w/ grapefruit in the mouth, it was creamy and smooth, light bodied. This beer poured a very cloudy orange color w/ gold hues, thin lasting head and thick lacing.

On tap at the 2008 Stone Winter Storm. This was the oldest Anniversary IPA on tap, so I went straight for it as my first beer of the evening. Pours a hazy brilliant yellow color from the tap with a nice white film on top. Very floral hop aroma with lots of mellowed earth and hay tones; it seems the 7+ years of aging have done this one well! The flavor is smoothed and elegant, with a large malt profile and resiny hops finish. Iím glad I got to try this vintage brew.

9/1/04. Poured out of 22 oz. bottle, bought at Stuffed Sandwich in San Gabriel, CA 9/1/04. An awesome treat for a birthday surprise. Special thanks to Sam at the Stuffed Sandwich for pulling this out and to my momma for buying it! Hazy muddy orange-amber color. Slight, dense head that disappears quickly. For a 4-year-old IPA, Iím impressed that itís there at all! Rocky, with light lacing and lumpy clusters of head all over. Nose is very malty for an IPA, mostly of light caramel. Flavor has mellowed a ton, nicely round and pretty smooth. The mouthfeel is really nice. Thick and silky. A bit of acidity and a big, dark and dirty hop shock at the end. Drying and dirty finish, long and lightly growing into a lovely warm glow. Some pine and a bit of a minty herbal undertaste. Aged grapefruit rind and citrus. Quite nice overall, but I remember it being better when I had it on draft last summer at Stuffed Sandwich (even much better than the 5th Anniversary at the time, but this bottle was not nearly as good). Still nice, and Iím delighted to have tried it again. Better than the sum of its parts.

Has a strong hops taste. Itís okay. I was not that crazy over it. Has a slight head and bitterness.

On tap at winter storm at the brewery. Nice thick white billowy head with golden hue. Not alot of floral and citrus on the nose as was expected due to the age. Smooth and creamy on the tongue with moderate bitterness. Good thick malty and resiny sweetness. Very good finish. The IPA is very good.
