COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
This special 6th Anniversary release is a "cranked up a notch or three" version of our Stone Smoked Porter. Our Stone Anniversary brews are a chance for our brewers to go a little wild (even more than they do on a daily basis). We added more malt (which brings up the viscosity and raises the abv to 8%), a fatter dose of hops and conditioned on both French and American oak (which contributes a softness to the mouthfeel and a far-off-in-the-distance hint of vanilla).

UPDATED: JUL 6, 2005 ....And then Stone made a Porter to rival man’s existence!!! The aroma is astoundingly strong, and the taste is brimming with coffee flavors. The aftertaste is one of the best i can think of off the top of my head. The color is very dark brown, blackish colour that almost cries "drink me, drink me". Definitely worth 4$ out of your pocket, a beautiful porter. Re-rate 7/6/05..... Man I am seriously going to miss this beer as this was my last bottle... fairly pitch black, thick, viscous orange/tan head. Aroma is chocolate, bourbon, whiskey, and smoke. Flavors are full bodied, thick, roasty, smokey, alcohol and chocolate. Mild carbonation, heavy hop bitterness distinguishing this from ANY other Porter... this is the best Porter in existence in my opinion...and im sad to see it go!

Bottle. I enjoyed this on a camping trip in the redwoods. Black with a lush foamy brown head. Wonderfully robust roasted bitter chocolate flavor. A long smooth roasted aftertaste. Re-Rate 11/24/02: Black with a light brown (almost purple) creamy and laced head. The aroma has lots of smoke, wood, and at the height of the inhale the lushes sweet fruits come alive. The flavor has rich roasted malts on a creamy smooth body. It leaves a smokey aftertaste.

UPDATED: JAN 22, 2003 Great interpretation of a porter! Strong sweet complex nose dominated by roasted malt, with hints of raisins and even coffee. Jet black color and a foamy tan head with lace. Huge chocolately taste with an espresso finish. Hop character is very present and makes for a long finish. Heavy body, though thinner than I expected. There is a little alcohol in the swallow that washes all the wonderful tastes down. This is like a piece of chocolate cake and a espresso rolled into a beer. Great with (or for?) dessert. Thank you SOOooo much, jcalabre!

UPDATED: JUN 9, 2004 Opaque and nearly jet black except for some amber highlights on the edges. Large frothy beige head that diminished perfectly. Aroma of charcoal, malt, and alcohol. Caramel flavor and light smoky, somewhat sweet finish that endures. An excellent, rich, full-bodied porter that kept getting better with each sip. I love this beer and the fact that it lingered in my area for circa 2 years after its release.

Poured dark brown, with some reddish hues around the edges and a tan head. No real lacing to speak of. Roasted, coffee, some alcohol in the aroma. Some smoke was certainly present, followed by roasted coffee and alcohol as well in the taste. This was super, thanks whaleman!

Big, roasty coffee, chocolate aroma. Pours blacker than used motor oil. Massive campfire smoky flavor, coffee, roasted malt, some chocolate and hops. Thanks to whaleman for this, I thought I would never be able to try it!

Mysteriously dark brown and wafting with enticing aromas. In-fricken-credible mouthfeel; intensely rich and rewarding, with a chocolaty texture. Big notes of dark chocolate and lesser notes of peat, wood, smoke, coffee cake, milk and brown sugar. The teeter-totter is steady and level, with bitter hops and dark chocolate on one end and a syrupy sweetness on the other. The perfect hint of alcohol and a healthy amount of hops (but definitely not overdone) round it out. Oh, man, great beer! Thanks, Dave!

Light smoky aroma and a nice color, though headless. Amazing how well this porter maintains its great flavor. What a great guy Joe is to bring this beer out at no charge to his fellow beer tasting enthusiasts. A perfect finish to the evening.

Pours dark brown with some sparse tan to light brown bubbles. Smells of chocolate, molasses, some underlying smoky hints, a nice balance of bitterness and some dark fruit. Tastes of nuts, dark chocolate, touches of coffee, some nice fruity elements and a nice balance of roastiness with hints of smoke. One of the best porters I have had. I wish this was a regular release or that I at least had another bottle of it!

hoppy alcoholic and choclate aroma, dark with a nice khaki head, strong alcohol sweetness into smoky choclate that finishes with roastiness then berry sweetness and lingering grapefruit hoppiness
