COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
The Stone 8th Anniversary Ale is, like all previous Stone Anniversary Ales so far, an adaptation of a previous Stone Brewing Co release. This year we set out to make a “Anniversary-ized” version of Lee’s Mild, a 3.8% abv limited release beer from 1999. For this beer we used some of the same malts that we had used in the Lee’s Mild, added more hops, less water (to bring the alcohol content up), and found a tasty balance of toasty/roastyness from the malt and a subtle (by Stone standards!) hop presence. To add further complexity, oak chips were employed to round out the character and give the beer a bit of vanilla/bourbon influence from the wood.

Very sweet! Almost like a very watered down scotch if you close your eyes. The boyfriend says it reminds him of coke. I amend that to flat coke.

Pours hazy amber with a small beige head. Aroma and flavor bring sweet malts. Unfortunately, the hops and wood have all faded at this point. =

Bottle thanks to djd07. Pours hazy dark brown. No head. Smoky, musty, nose. Taste is fairly, hints of chocolate, burnt malts. Body is a bit thin. Held up well I guess.

Thanks to Coleman. Pours a deep amber with a small tan head. Nose is nutty, brown sugar, burnt toast and a touch of dark fruit. Flavor is a bit papery, brown sugars, more nuts. Palate is a touch thin. Not bad.

7/7/12. Shared at my going away tasting by czuber! Definite oxidized aroma with cardboard and mint. Bready aspects follow. Milk chocolate in the flavor with bread toast and mint. Interesting.

[ Courtesy of fiulijn ]. [ Vintage ]. Unclear matt medium to dark orange amber colour with a small to average, frothy, fair lacing, mostly diminishing, off-white head. Aroma is moderate to heavy malty, caramel, nutty, light chocolate, wood notes, moderate hoppy, orange - citrus. Flavour is moderate to light heavy sweet and bitter with a long duration. Body is medium, texture is oily, carbonation is soft. [20120420]

Bottle 65 cl. Courtesy of fiulijn. Pours a cloudy opaque brown with a beige head. Sweet nutty aroma with some mellow hops and only a slight oxidization. Rich body, soft carbonation, nuts, vanilla, a little woody and licorice all-sorts - even chocolate with only a discreet bitterness in the finish. In pretty good shape for an 8 year old beer really! 200412

It pours a brown color, with small head. Oxidized aroma of caramel, light phenol. Semi-sweet flavor of dark caramel, some oxidisation again; correct bitterness, but less that it should have been originally. Doesn’t age well.

Thanks riversideAK! Milk chocolatey nose, dry dark bread. Murky mousey brown. Great balance between toasty caramel and ashy grain. Creamy finish. Everything I love in a dark beer.

bottle. drank on 11/28/11. Pours a med darker orange not much head. caramel, bread, dough, vanilla, woody, raisin. It was past being top notch but being as old as it was held up good. Lots of sweet taste like carmel and dark sugar fruit. Not bad given age but prob a lot better in past. Had anv 9 today sucked so happy 8 was fairly good.
