Commercial Description:
The Stone 8th Anniversary Ale is, like all previous Stone Anniversary Ales so far, an adaptation of a previous Stone Brewing Co release. This year we set out to make a “Anniversary-ized” version of Lee’s Mild, a 3.8% abv limited release beer from 1999. For this beer we used some of the same malts that we had used in the Lee’s Mild, added more hops, less water (to bring the alcohol content up), and found a tasty balance of toasty/roastyness from the malt and a subtle (by Stone standards!) hop presence. To add further complexity, oak chips were employed to round out the character and give the beer a bit of vanilla/bourbon influence from the wood.

Red brown ale with copper hues, no head. Sweet funky earthy aroma, almost smell the farm. Sweet caramel malt with raisins, and roasted coffee beans. Light alcohol burn and vanilla. Oily mouthfeel. rich bodied. Well balanced. Nov. 28 2004. Bought at CJ’s in Potsdam, NY.

Bottle: Courtesy of cmr1517...thanks Chris. Murky mahogany pour with a wispy tan head. Obviously no hop notes present what-so-ever. Notes of caramel malt, berries and some roasted malts. Very smooth body...flavor had some caramel, dark fruits and bread dough to it, though slightly oxidized it didn’t detract too much from the overall experience. Not bad but way past prime I’ve got to assume.

On tap @ Stone, RBSG. Amber color, thin white layer of head. Musky English hops, toasty malts, very light oak. Had an almost apple-like taste, English hops on the finish. Interesting beer.

On tap at the brewery. Red to brown in color and cloudy muddy like look to it. Decent light tan colored head. Aromas of some hops, spices, malts, and some oak. Taste has a nice balance, smooth, some bitternes and a good malty to toasty flavor.

Bottle courtesy of adrian910ss. Pours a murky red/brown with a small tan head. Aroma of raisin, dark fruit, with a slight hint of chocolate and roast. Flavor is lots of tootsie roll and chocolate malt, also raisin and cinnamon. Quite tasty! Only slightly past its prime, as the hops have faded.

Red-brown with a small head with very little lacing. The aroma is woody with a note of chocolate. The flavor is of bitter hops with notes of chocolate and oak. Bitter throughout. Creamy in texture. A good strong aggressive beer: I LOVE IT!
