Goldorak (424), Montreal, Quebec, Canada Jun 14, 2007 Opaque orange, very thin lacing and soapy bubbles. You’d get a bit of head on it only after significant swirling. For something that’s been sitting a while in the cellar, it’s nothing unusual.
Speaking of unusual, the hop signature you usually get from Stone isn’t quite there in this Beer, so it came off as a bit of a surprise. Sure, the citrus and pine were there, but it was way more mellow, there definately had some cheezy element and some kind of corked character that I enjoyed. Another after-effect of the aging process? Perhaps.
Carbonation was just right to leave some room for the malt and to prevent the hops from taking center stage, but obviously they keep the leading role. The pineyness of the hops came out the most, another surprise for me as I’m used to more of a grapefruit finish, and there definately had some yeast action going on as well. It went down wickedly smooth and I enjoyed it. Note to self: keep aging your Stones!
JMFG (1140), Florida, USA Aug 27, 2008 On tap @ Stone, RBSG. Slightly hazy golden with a slight amber hue. Short-lived white head. Slight phenolic banana notes, darker Belgian malts, some citric notes. Deep wheat taste with some mild dark fruity tones. Nice texture to it. Alcohol complements well also. KieferUGA (320), Atlanta, Georgia, USA Aug 23, 2008 22 oz. bottle. Pours a hazy, cider color. Thin, bubbly white head that doesn’t stick around for very long. Aroma of honey, peaches, and warming alcohol. Flavor is cloyingly sweet, but not offensive. Dark fruits, raisins, pears. A bit of alchol, but not too overpowering. Finish is slightly bitter, with peppery notes. chicagodri (485), Chicago, Illinois, USA Aug 20, 2008 Bottle. Glad this beer was able to hold up, I was a lot more confident since I had an 8th Anniversary not that long ago. Pours a cloudy orange with hints of red and a thin off white head. Grapefruit, and more citrus and hops in the nose. Very good fruit flavor in the beer, mainly citrus and a lot of sweet malt. I was actually kind of surprised at how sweet it was. Good beer though, glad I was able to get a bottle of it. Now I need to find some 10th Anniversary! fredandboboflo (507), East Setauket, New York, USA Aug 17, 2008 Bottle. Aroma of citrus and mango with a bit of alcoholic orange juice, all slowly blending with somewhat darker fruits and rich malt. Flavor starts off again with a citrus/mango tang and bang, but there actually does remain a decent bitterness to go along with that mango sweetness. Similar to the nose, other fruity notes creep in, and despite all the rich malt, both the flavor profile and body remains very lively and sprightly. Again hints of alcoholic orange juice but not as noticeable as in the nose, and all in all nothing more than a distraction from all the other goodness. Very solid beer three years later. LilBeerDoctor (508), East Setauket, New York, USA Aug 15, 2008 Bottle courtesy of adrian910ss. Pours a cloudy orange with a small light tan head. Aroma of citrus, grapefruit, bitter hops, and slight dark fruit presence. Flavor is quite fruity- lots of tropical fruits, mango, apple skins, pear, and citrus. A little alcohol too, oddly. Quite sweet and fruity. I don’t know what this was like fresh, but it’s quite delicious right now with all those ester notes. Yum!
