3.2 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20
Draft to taster. Looks solid; a transparent pale burnt orange with eggshell lacing. Smells solid too; oak, bourbon, and Belgian yeast with a bit of hops in the background. Some vanilla as well. Tastes like it smells, but less balanced, and without the vanilla. Average (at best) on the palate with a slightly bitter mouthfeel. Smells significantly better than it tastes.

3.5 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 16/20
Draft. Murky copper, with fairly pillowy slow fading head and lots of lacing. Not a big BBA IPA/pale ale proponent, but this one works ok. Nose of some wet wood, light vanilla sweetness, malt. Lots of oak in the taste, becoming astringent at times, on a malty core. Some red wine-like elements, maybe indicating some early infection or souring, but fine for now. If told this was barrel aged and to pick which kind, would say wine over bourbon.

3.4 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20
On tap at Capone’s. Poured a deeper amberish color with an off white head. Fruity, citrus, some woody and some earthiness. Bourbon very light if at all present.

3.9 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
On tap @ Beer Junction. Pours hazy orangish dark copper with thin lacy white head. Aroma is light sweet caramel malt, sharply tart notes, and a smooth boozy bourbon on the finish. Taste is clean sweet caramel malt, some dry floral Belgian spice notes, and mild sweet bourbon barrel flavors in the finish. Not a style I would typically seek out, but really refreshing and nice in its simplicity.

3.5 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20
On draft. Clear golden amber pour, with a white head. Bready, citrus, hoppy, notes of banana, fruity esters, bourbon barrel, a bit of oak, and yeast. Ok.

3.9 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
Growler fill from brewery. Cloudy orange-amber pour. Slightly sweet aroma with hint of banana and wood. Initial malty flavor with a hint of fruit leaves behind a woody taste with bourbon-sweet overtones. Very nice blend of the flavors -- nothing particularly overwhelmes the others.

3.8 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
Growler fill from brewery in Escondido ($18 for 64-ounce growler). Pours a hazy sunset orange-red hue with two fingers of fluffy off-white foam. AROMA of tart lemons, some tropical fruits, Belgian yeast, wet oak (vaguely brett-like), bready malts, and only a little bit of the bourbon. FLAVOR of semi-sweet bready malts, lemony hops, juicy citrus, and some boozy bourbon near the end. Finishes with a significant noticeable hop bite. Quite interesting with all the hop notes but with the bourbon still detectable. Might be better to let this sit for a while to mellow out the hops and (hopefully) bring out the bourbon notes a bit more. I liked it, but much prefer Allagash’s Curieux for a bourbon BA Belgian blonde. (1, 887)
