Keg at Zapfanstadt in Dresden. I feel like I’ve had this beer a million times. Just getting round to rating it now. It’s tidy. Oaky, dry and boozy. Burnt caramel. Gets ye pished like. Bitter n ’aw

4 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20
(650 ml bottle into wine glass.) Pours clear and brown with a ruby red shimmer topped with a hefty 2-finger, yellowish head. Well enough carbonation yet very nice. The taste has some distinct hints of roasted coffee swirling with fruits and a bold hop profile that leaves a long bitter tail. A proper brew.

Bottle, 650 ml from Luvians bottle shop, St Andrews. Pours deep amber, lasting beige head. Caramel malty, dark fruit, spicy, toffee, sweet. Moderate hoppiness. Bitter finish. Had this on my list for some time, didn’t really knock me off my feet, but it is a good brew.

2.8 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 10/20
I wasn’t worthy, was a bit disappointed after all the Arrogant Bastard hype I expected something a little bit more drinkable. It seems I don’t have the sophistication to appreciate it.

3.6 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20
Draught at BKL München 2016.
Dark copper body, with a medium, creamy, lacing, beige head.
Aroma of tea, caramel, dark fruits, grapefruit, some grass.
Tastes of grapefruit, caramel, some pine, some resin, dark fruits, some tea.
Medium, oily mouthfeel, with a lively carbonation.
Finishes bitter, a bit dry, zesty, hoppy, a bit herbal, with subtle malts.
Nice one, although I was expecting more. Tastes like a darker IPA, with some harsh notes I don’t like too much. I’ve had the Oaked version before and liked it way better.

3.8 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
Wow can’t believe I haven’t rated this yet. Deep reddish copper with a medium head that leaves moderate lacing. The aroma is resiny, slightly piney, and a touch of floral hops with a rich caramel backbone. The flavor is about what you would expect from the aroma...Chinook hops and Special B. Classic American strong ale.
