Beautiful clear ruby amber. Frothy khaki head. Aroma is red fruity and light bourbon barrel. Interesting. Flavor is very dry. Very woody. Mild to moderate bitter.alcohol well hidden. Well made. I do prefer the original.

A decent alcohol taste, fairly strong but.not too much. Malt, caramel, smooth but in your face. Love it.

4 oz pour at the Stone Company Store in Pasadena. Dark amber pour with a slight off-white head. Strong oak and booze in the nose. Taste is a bit on the harsh side, but not a ton of bourbon as I might have expected. Not a bad beer to sip on while sitting on the patio outside.

Poured from a 22oz bottle into a snifter. A - brew smells sweet, floral, and bourbony. Reminds me of the scent of a floral shop. Also some bitterness and booziness in the aromas. A - looks terrific. Dark Amber hue, a little murky. Thin, off white head. T - the bourbon flavors are obvious, but not so blatant that they obscure the original ABA flavor. I taste bourbon and woodiness on the attack, floral and slight carmely flavors in the middle. The finish builds up the bitterness on the back of the tongue, which then recedes and leaves you with a creamy, almost vanilla-like, flavor for the finale. Great range of flavors, although I feel the heavy bitterness almost clashes with the smooth, sweet bourbon aspects. P - Delightfully smooth, and not too heavy! The slight vanilla notes imparted from the bourbon aging give this ale a tinge of creaminess in the finish. O - Iíve found a few bourbon aged beers that Iíve thoroughly enjoyed, but Iíve also tasted some shitty beers that use this type of aging as a gimmick to sell off their inferior product. This beer surprised me! It works quite well with the bourbon flavors, because ABA already has a nice caramel sweetness in its flavor profile. Again, I feel the bitterness of the hops clashes a little with the sweetness of the bourbon. But the floral flavors and aromatics of the hops work well with woody characteristics from the aging. An impressive entry to the ABA family! "Never turn your back on your beer."

Amber with off white head. Nice lacing. Whiskey, dark berry, roast, and mild coffee. Full bodied, alcohol, mild salt, chocolate. Decent balance, medium bitterness. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Pours caramel brown with a thick brown head. Initial aroma of caramel wheaty whiskey. Initial taste of soft slightly sweet malts that fade fast. Then a lingering malt hoppy taste on the side of the tongue. Actually a layer of delicate flavors which sounds cliche. ---Rated via Beer Buddy

22oz bottle, from Dutchís (Box of Bastards pack). Hazy very dark red color. Thin khaki head, leaving fantastic thicker ridges of lace. Medium to bigger body. Super smooth, with a nice full fluffy texture. Sort of a chewy, velvety mouthfeel. Lighter carbonation. Very light slick finish. Fantastic mix of big earthy hop, spicy hop, chocolate, mild caramel, light dark fruit, mild toast oak, and a touch of vanilla in the flavor, very tasty. Medium to bigger bitterness, moderate but not at all bothersome sweetness. No sort of any bite that you may expect from the typical bourbon barrel aged beer, itís all blended very well into the flavor of the base. Just a light pleasant bit of warmth that accompanies the long, delicious aftertaste. A really fantastic, incredibly balanced, enjoyable beer. Nearly any other craft barrel-aged bomber would be a bad idea to open on my own, but this guy is impressively swiggable... Iím happy that I have it all to myself. They should make this on a much larger scale... Iím impressed that it was included in this $20 4pk. A slight bit of syrupy sweetness comes out more later, but overall this was an immensely enjoyable bomber.

Bomber. Piney hop aroma with bourbon notes. Pours dark amber colored with a ruby hue. Starts with caramel with some piney hoppiness. Finishes dry, but smooth with bourbon and oak notes. Overall, this is a tamer version of the bastard as the barrel aging has mellowed the powerful bitterness of the original. Good stuff!

Clear, red pour with an off-white head. The aroma is slightly woody with some caramel. It has a full body with sticky texture and average carbonation. The taste is mildly sweet with a dry-roasted finish.

22oz bomber pours with a crystal clear copper body that supports a thin tan head. The aroma offers up smooth bourbon sweetness, some vanilla, sweetened oak and then mild levels of the base ABA goodness. The taste is similar as the bourbon barrel treatment is far too forward and is crushing the yummy beer notes. So some ABA notes come through but theyíre just an echo against the full firm barrel notes. I really prefer more balance here.
