Pours a hazy copper color with off-white head. Bourbon, caramel malts, and some booze on the nose; follows onto the palate. Finishes with more bourbon.

Draft at Big Wood 2014. Deep malty palate bomb with a hugely hoppy after. Exactly what you want this to taste like.

Pours dark copper with thin white head. Aroma of fig, caramel, bourbon, mop, baby powder. Taste is bitter up front bourbon and vanilla notes. Harsh hop bitterness that lingers. Mouthfeel in medium. Overall not impressed. The flavors of bourbon barrel aging clash and harshen arrogant bastard. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

On tap at Brouwer’s Cafe for Big Wood 2014, pours a hazy dark amber with a medium beige head. Aroma brings out some vegetal notes, along with wood and hops poking through. Flavour is much better, with notes of wood, citrusy hops, caramel, and some light vegetal notes. Very nicely done - the base beer managed to yield itself to barrels pretty well. Not the most complex beer, but very enjoyable and well-crafted.

Pours a hazy dark amber minimal head. Aroma is slightly faint of sweet bourbon molasses caramel. Taste sweet bourbon, vanilla, brown sugar some roasted malt and slight hop bitterness on the back end. Medium mouth feel. Pretty good

Bottle. Deep ruby copper pour with a tall fluffy tan head. Very earthy and fruity aroma with some caramel, toasted bread and malt notes. Taste is earthy hops, fruity notes, caramel, toasted malt, sweet malt and soft grains. Not much oak or vanilla to this even though they are far in the background. Body is medium with a soft, bubbly carbonation. Ends with more fruity hops, earthy hops, toasted grains, caramel, sweet malt, light oak and bready notes. The bourbon barrel effect is light on this one.

Growler fill, thanks for splurging for this, anderson01! Pours brown with a thick beige head with great retention. Aroma consists of caramel malt, wet river rock, wood. Taste is sweet and lightly bitter. The wood influence is somewhat minimal but there is a little coconut in there; light booze. Body is fairly thin. I was hoping for more from this.

Growler fill, thanks Anderson01- Pours hazy dark red with an egg shell white head. Aroma is toasted coconut, oak, mild bourbon. Taste is malty, coconut, bourbon and oak, massively complex. Tasty shit!

Draft at Big Wood 2014 at Brouwer’s. Last beer of the day. Rich ruby, tight foam. Sweet alc and ruby malt. Tart body with malty barrel. More tart body than original. Nice.

poured from bottle into wine glass. I’m not really sure what this beer is trying to accomplish. It’s such a light touch that its very hard to pull out any bourbon in the flavor. While i’m all for subtly in barrel aging, this goes beyond to non-participation. What the barrel doesn’t add in flavor, it makes up for in messing up the rest of the beer. The hops aren’t clear, the malts are too amped up, even the appearance is muddied. Not my thing
