I can’t really write much in this one. My over all impression was awkward. The different notes didn’t quite come together in harmony to create a unified flavor experience. I think they tried to do to much with this one.

A bit light to be aged in bourbon barrels for my liking, and the hops mingle in a weird way with the barrel. Not terrible but not the biggest fan.

Good aroma of bourbon, oak, vanilla, spice and booze heat. As it warms, I am even getting some dark fruit in the scent. Brown color with scarcely any head. If you try really hard, you can see through it. Flavor is classic Bastard, but subdued by the vanilla undertones from the barrel. The hops do not knock you over like other Bastard variations. More like a brown ale than a strong ale. Aftertaste is a little hot. Palate left me wanting more. Overall ok, I probably would not buy again. This bottle was aged 5 months; perhaps it would have been better fresh.

On tap at the Pinglehead brewpub. I’m not a fan of the regular version but this is certainly better. Still has a lingering bitterness that seems to strong. BBL effects complement rather than overpos=wering the underlying ale.

Bottle shared by a friend. Clear red pour with a thick beige head. Aroma of malt, caramel and slight oak. Malty flavor with accents of booze and caramel before a watery and bitter finish. Not bad, but this beer did not take to the barrel as well as I had hoped.

Bomber poured into beer tulip. Creamy, frothy off white head that lingers as you drink and deep amber in color. Aroma is strong pine,. Mouth is pine, slight vanilla, oak, and caramel. I was expecting way more of a bite, almost to smooth. Creamy mouthfeel. Nothing standout.

A fantastic version of a a great original. Pours a dark amber. Aromas are sweet bourbon and caramel, dank hops and a bit of wet dog. Nice sweet bourbon flavours up front with a nicely balanced hop finish. Great beer.

Brewvival 2015 Trip #80. Keg at Brevival. Pours a hazy copper with a thin frothy tan head. Good head retention. Aroma of strong bourbon, caramel malt, piney hops. The taste is piney, resin hops and bourbon in the finish. Medium bodied, lingering bitterness.
