Appearance: clear medium amber with one finger of light beige head, good retention and patchy lacing. (4/5) Aroma: caramel/toffee, pine, citrus, oaky bourbon. (9/10) Taste: moderate-high sweet, strong bitter. (9/10) Palate: medium-full body, moderate carbonation, lingering bitter and warming finish. (5/5) Iím not entirely convinced by this one. The bourbon barrel ageing is not overwhelming, but itís definitely present, and it feels to me like itís blowing out some of the subtler notes I usually associate with Arrogant Bastard, such as vanilla and rye spice, and itís muddying the aggressive hop/malt one-two punch. Itís still quite good, but it doesnít feel like an improvement to me. (18/20)

I really liked this bourbon version of A/B. Thick and syrupy with a citrus/pine hop complement to the bourbon vanilla. Not at all sweet or cloying. Long finish.

Alpha10 (496) - Ontario, CANADA - FEB 5, 2016
2026/02/05 - Pours a dark, clear, auburn colour with a medium, frothy, khaki coloured head that quickly reduces. Aroma is heavy vanilla, bready malt, toffee, roast, oaky notes and light citrus. Taste is vanilla, oak, toffee, roast, mild citrus and sweet bread. Mouthfeel is medium with smooth carbonation a slightly chalky finish. Less aggressive than the standard Arrogant Bastard, but very enjoyable nonetheless. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Bottle, 12 FL OZ. 8.1% ABV rather than 7.9%. Pours dark reddish amber; clear with lots of carbonation visible. About half a finger of light tan head with quite heavy lacing. Lots of vanilla and caramel/toffee malt notes at the forefront on the nose, behind which lies a somewhat subtle (and slightly burned) oak note. Thereís quite a strong foresty, resinous hop note here too and some very subtle fruity edges. Quite sweet overall. Bready and caramel malts are prominent initially in the taste with their sweetness being balanced out by the bitterness imparted by the resinous hops, which lingers for a long time in the roof and sides of the mouth. Slight citrus notes from the hops too. Bourbon is definitely present though in a subtle way, imparting some light oaky and vanilla edges. Body is medium to full, texture is slick and smooth, and carbonation starts off lively but quickly dissipates to only a subtle tickle on the tip of the tongue.

12 ounce bottle. Deep reddish copper color topped by a large rocky beige. Big toasted malt nose has obvious oaky notes. Flavor is bittersweet toasted malt with lots of oak and resiny hops. Hints of bourbon and brown sugar in midtaste. Dry bitter finish has boozy notes. Quite nice.

Draft. Pours amber with an off white head. Rich and relatively balanced, with restrained bourbon sweetness, citric hops, and some sweet and bready malts. Decent.

5/I/16 - 12Fl. Oz. bottle @ home - BB: n/a, bottled: VII/25/15 (2016-14) Thanks to Anthony for sharing the bottle!

Clear deep red to purple beer, creamy irregular beige head, stable, adhesive, leaving a nice lacing in the glass. Aroma: sweet, caramel, some vanilla, malty, banana. MF: ok carbon, medium to full body. Taste: sweet start, vanilla, caramel, bourbon, bit sugary, very bitter hops. Aftertaste: some banana, vanilla, very bitter, boozy touch, more banana, resinous, very chewy hops. Wow!

Bottle from AA. Citrus hop and caramel malt nose, light bourbon, a tiny pinch of wood, some vanilla. Also raisins, baked apples, treacle. This was not straight from the barrel, I suppose, but only a small %. Definitely mellower than the usual AB. Brown with orange tints and a low head. Rich and malty, fudge, treacle, baked fruits. Rich and mellow, but still with a nice hop character and a bitter finish. Not all that much bourbon, really. Finish is a bit too bitter. Silky, not heavy. Nice.

Dark copper, cloudy. Full body, concentrated flavor, lingering and bitter finish. Aggressively bitter, dry. Simple hop flavor, burnt sugar. Big beer, rich more than delicious. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone
