On tap at the Pasadena store. Medium reddish brown/mahogany with thick tan boulders that dissipated to a solid film and left great lacing. Pine hop aromas were strong with bourbon, oak and roasted malts clearly present. Resinous hoppy flavor balanced with strong maltiness that lingered in the background followed by a muted booziness. Medium body with light carbonation that left a real good mouth feel.

Thin head of offwhite bubbles from a half filled growler. Keg kicked as growler was getting filled. Strong malt and a bit of caramel along with the oaky bourbon notes. Some dark fruit also. Color is a hazy dark mahagony. Bourbon notes are less prominent in the flavor. Some oak and vanilla along with a moderate earthy bitterness. Caramel malts and butterscotch. Noticable alcohol presence and warming. Finishes malty with a mild sprucy hops bitterness. An ok modification but being a little flat from the half filled growler is not helping the experience.

Bottle. Smells of bourbon , dust, bread, mature green vegetation. Taste is dusty bourbon, roasted nuts - chestnuts perhaps, bitter green leaves, earth. Surprisingly, and this is rare, I like the original better.

A: Brown/red colour, thinlacing after a small head disappeard fast. N: Figs, mango, oak, vanilla T: Vanilla, hops, figs, apricot O: More bitterness from the hops than expected but a nice sweetness and hint of vanilla. Quite alright!

@ Basunen 15-11-21: ganska söt både i doft och smak. Torr fataktig munnkänsla, kanske lite ensformig.

7.9%ABV.  American Strong Ale. Poured out of the bottle a red amber brown.  28ºSRM. Nose is complex with something salty and sweet like cooling saltwater taffy.  There is a full bodied malty backbone with plenty of rye bread, roasted cracked barley and the creamy comfort of a malt shake.   There are also some nice roasty nutty notes. Again, like roasting chestnuts, and this is accentuated by some nice oak-y aromas.  Finally, in the nose there is just enough umami waxy funk to remind me of a nice ripe cheese, something blue methinks. Mouthfeel is soapy, alcohlic and almost syrupy.  It sticks to the palate a little.  There is a rich roundness that comes in after the slightly harsh alcohol, and this lifts the entire palate out of the cloying doldrums.  The carbonation is present, but you just notice it, which is nice, otherwise, this would just be another overwrought strong ale. The finish is legendarily hoppy, or at least that was the way the story went.  In this day and age, maybe not so much.  Long and bitter with a hint of smoke.  It was very very nice to re-visit an old friend.  Time and age have proved too much for sparkly memories of a happier time when a cold Arrogant Bastard was all that could take the cares of the world away, and maybe just maybe, it still can... Makes The List for sentimental reasons.   Goes on Favorites List!
