Amazingly good barley wine. Perfect balance of hops and malt, but of course more malt than pine/citrus. Loved it, had at Momís May 14th. :/

3.7 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 16/20
Pours a crisp copper without a bit of beading. Soft, loose, sticky head. Perfect lacing.
Strong nose - caramel, toffee, raisin, booze, candied sugar, molasses, complex. Translates well to the tongue.
Bitter, boozy start on the tongue which then moves through numerous waves of goodness. Quite nice. Everything in the nose finds a home somewhere in the taste.
Not too easy going down, but itís lovely to sip slowly and savor.

3.6 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20
Pours amber in color with a white head. Smells much hoppier than I expected. Not a ton of barrel/bourbon character. Some vanilla and a bit of booze, but mostly pine and citrus with caramel malt. The flavor is more of the same. Probably the most bitter barrel aged barleywine Iíve ever had. Pine and citrus with caramel, a hint of vanilla, some oak, and maybe just a touch of bourbon.

2012 batch. hoppy for a barley wine and that keeps it from getting too rich. thereís still plenty of brown sugar and fruit but itís more like a ítriple ipaí.

4.1 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 17/20
Aroma of coffee, caramel, raisins, and some hops. Very dark brown appearance with a thin foam top. Taste is flavorful coffee, bread, barley, black liquorice, raisins, caramel and some leafy/earthy flavors. Very smooth, crisp taste with a thin palate. Overall, a full-flavored and easy drinking brew. Iíd give this an A rating.

3.9 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20
í10 bottle. Pours a clear caramel red with a large and frothy white head. Aroma is faded hops, very slight bourbon, roast, caramel, raisin, and some grainy malt character toward the back. Taste is light hop bitterness, raisin, caramel, subtle and soft bourbon with a touch of vanilla, and a bit more hop bitterness through the finish. Mouth feel is even, clean, and even somewhat dry given the 11%+ abv. I was really surprised at how minute the bourbon character is on this beer but putting that aside the beer is still very enjoyable and itís nice to enjoy this variant in the comfort of my home. Nice beer.

3.8 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20
Nice off-white pillowy head. 3 fingers. Subtle aroma in general; malty. Dark orange appearance, slightly cloudy. Fairly carbonated. Medium body, sweet, slightly salty, and almost smoky. Good with heavy food as the finish (which is a hoppy punch in the nuts) cuts right through the fats on the palate. Good beer!

2005 Vintage on tap at Stone. Lots of bourbon on the nose. Bright deep orange. Smooth, the easiest old guardian Iíve ever tasted. Bourbon flavored from start to finish, and some alcohol is present as well. OGís usual characters have receded a bit in favor of the bourbon.
