Tasted at Stone 15th Anny party. Golden orange color. Aromas of bourbon and sweet malt.OG flavors of caramel malt, butterscotch, along with some alcohol burn. The bourbon barrel influence readily apparent and interesting mix. Not so sure how much I dig the two together. Happy to sample it.

@ Alewife for Stone Tap Takeover Tour 2010. This was the 2004 bourbon barrel aged version. This had vanilla notes and sweet malty flavors on the nose. The appearance is slightly cloudy and deep reddish gold. Taste is sweet, but not too much. Flavors of vanilla, alcohol, and malty notes all coming through. The toffee flavors linger and really make this beer shine. ABV is high, but really goes well with this beer. Palate is thick and mildly carbonated. Overall a really nicely aged and matured barleywine. The best barleywine I have had ever.

Aroma of coffee, caramel, raisins, and some hops. Very dark brown appearance with a thin foam top. Taste is flavorful coffee, bread, barley, black liquorice, raisins, caramel and some leafy/earthy flavors. Very smooth, crisp taste with a thin palate. Overall, a full-flavored and easy drinking brew. I’d give this an A rating.

2012 batch. hoppy for a barley wine and that keeps it from getting too rich. there’s still plenty of brown sugar and fruit but it’s more like a ’triple ipa’.

Draft at stone. of all the epic beers on tap this night... this was my fav. pours reddish brown with no head. aroma is all bourbon and vanilla. mouthful was full on bourbon that gracefully faded to allow the great old guardian come through. the big bourbon note was amazing and delish...

2005 Vintage on tap at Stone. Lots of bourbon on the nose. Bright deep orange. Smooth, the easiest old guardian I’ve ever tasted. Bourbon flavored from start to finish, and some alcohol is present as well. OG’s usual characters have receded a bit in favor of the bourbon.
4.2 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 17/20 brigg (461) - Washington DC, USA - JUL 22, 2008
(bottle) This barley wine has an orange copper body with a small beige head. The aroma is very sweet and spicy that somehow seems to fill the room with its floral bouquet. The alcohol and bourbon notes as there, as well. The first thing I notice when taking a sip is how creamy, soft, and full bodied the beer feels. Sweetness and alcohol are apparent upfront, but it finishes very dry with some hop bitterness and some alcohol burn.
Don’t have much experience with barley wine, but this was really quite good and much better than which ever barley wines I have had before.
