SuzyGreenberg (1043), Seattle, Washington, USA Jun 3, 2008 growler - big, big thanks to weaheavySD for the trade; if i think of the pure joy that ratebeer can provide, this is the perfect example; a traded something, outrageous perhaps, for something that was equally outrageous is my mind; regardless, a growler of a bourbon-aged russian imperial stout shows up to me from some brew pub more than 1,200 miles away; and not that you need an excuse, but provided a good one to get together with a few other raterbeerians and savor in the sticky goodness of a truly kick ass RIS; poured out like motor oil with tan head varying from thick to thin; huge aromas of chocolate, molasses, teriyaki, bourbon, wood, etc. with a different combo each sniff; lots of bourbon, but never overwhelming; drinks oaty, sweet and creamy, syrupy, rich; just about everything and big in every way; wow, it really blew me away and was a beer you could get lost in as you savored each sip; memorable to the last drop; thanks jon for providing the adventure
Marsiblursi (1432), Gö te la borrrrg, Sweden Oct 10, 2008 (Bottle, thanks to wetherel) Pours dark brown to black with a brown head and an oily surface. The aroma is a fantastic mix of robust, dark caramel, buttery fudge and creamy chocolate-like malt alongside soft notes of fresh oak wood and vanilla. Undertones of dark fruits and dark berries such as raisins, prunes, ripe sweet cherries and chocolate dipped figs. A nice alcohol warmth is carrying everything in the nose beautiful. Just a whisper of molasses, soy and smoke. The flavour is perfect roasted with dark creamy chocolate and coffee. The finish is peppery from the alcohol and bourbon. Undertones of dark fruits, molasses, fresh wood, vanilla, caramel and touch of stone. The mouthfeel is velvety smooth and oily with a light tannin-like finish. Medium sweet and a bit bitter. Medium to full bodied. Ungstrup (11408), Frederiksberg, Denmark Sep 29, 2008 To celebrate my rating number 11,300 I enter this much sought after top-50 beer. A pitch black beer with a thin brown head. The aroma is sweet malty with notes of roasted malt and bourbon. The flavor is sweet with strong notes of bourbon as well as medium notes of wood, roasted malt, and alcohol, leading to a dry roasted finish. The alcohol burns in the top of the throat. maniac (2022), Richmond, Virginia, USA Sep 28, 2008 On tap at the Stone Brewing World Bistro & Gardens on 08/03/2008 on day three of RBSG 2008. 2007 Vintage.
