bb (2905), Martinez, California, USA Oct 15, 2009 Draft. Amber beer with an off-white head. Hoppy grapefruit aroma. Hoppy grapefruit flavor with rich malt and brandy backing. Medium-plus bodied. Grapefruit and pine lingers with rich malt. SuzyGreenberg (1318), Seattle, Washington, USA Sep 4, 2009 draft @ Brouwer’s Big Wood - reddish brown with spotty tan head; quite boozy with the brandy dominating every aspect; flavor is not too aggressive and double bastard is barley noticeable; texture is sweet and rich though; not bad, but a little disappointing and primarily a brandy bomb hellomynameis (794), Mayer, Minnesota, USA Aug 21, 2009 Slightly alcoholic. All I’m really able to get out of this is some brandy notes. Finishes very hot. ChrisThomson (372), Toronto, Ontario, Canada Aug 3, 2009 On tap. Great beer, but I still prefer the original DB. Has a great nose where the brandy and oak comes through. Flavour of caramel malt, ripe fruit, vanilla, a bit of alcohol burn coming through. Ungstrup (14723), Frederiksberg, Denmark Jul 1, 2009 Draft at Stone Bistro. An amber beer with a thin beige head. The aroma is sweet malty combined with notes of caramel and over ripe fruits as well as a light note of alcohol. The flavor is sweet with notes of malt, over ripe fruits, and a light touch of brandy, leading to a dry and very woody finish. The alcohol burns lightly in the top of the throat. nqualls (1429), Nashville, Tennessee, USA Jun 30, 2009 Source:Guest tap at DLD.

Cletus (4997), Connecticut, USA Jun 26, 2009 Growler consumed some time in the summer of 2008. Pours brownish red with a tan head. Smells of oak, brandy, molasses, fruity, some sweet malt, breaddy. Tastes dry and oaky with a nice fruity undertone and some nice bitterness on the finish. xmarcnolanx (788), Kirkwood, Missouri, USA Jun 25, 2009 DLD 2009 6 oz pour
Aroma is lots of brandy, touches of sourness, vanilla, carmel, and honey.
Taste is initially alcoholic and brandy, but strangely not hot. A bit of tart red grapefruit, well more than a bit. Vanilla, more red fruit, and alcohol soaked vanilla-caramel.
Mouthfeel is slightly cloying, sweet, and a bit more red fruit alcohol.
