Pouring at EBF’s Night of the Barrels. Pours a lot like the regular, slightly hazy brown. A bit fruity, acidic malt, the hops have faded a bit. Still has a nice caramel character to it. Finishes up with a bit of roast.

Cleveland tasting 2008. Pours a very deep ruby amber with a medium head- fades a bit. Aroma is very sweet- lots of big brandy and alcoholic notes, some fruity hints, fig, raisin, and peach with some licorice hints, anise, big caramelized and toasted malts, toffee sweetness along with some molasses to make it seem sticky- hops are faded a bit- some pine-cold smokey resinous chinook leftover. Flavor is tannin, oak, bourbon barrel- sweet syrupy caramel malt and brandy backbone, fruity- dried figs, dates, raisin, big sharp crystal malt, caramel, molasses, and brandy and ethanol burn in the end- gets a bit prickly- medium bitterness left. Very over the top, but I kinda liked it.

On tap at Capone’s and vintaged 06. Has a nice deep brown color to it. Has a smell of wood, brandy, caramel. Taste is very similar but with some vanilla. Very different from regular double bastard and isn’t over powering with the brandy

3.8 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
Pours a deep dark mahogany/chestnut brown color with very dark ruby edges and a one finger off-white head that quickly fades into a thin ring. Not much lacing.
Sweet vinous aroma with lots of alcohol and oaky vanilla brandy notes. Dark fruit, caramel, fig, currant, red cherries, grape and toasty malt.
Sweet vinous medium body with lots of oaky vanilla brandy flavor. Slight vanilla smoothness balances out the sweet alcohol and prominent brandy. Lots of dark fruit notes, especially grape, dark cherries and currant. Slight heat but mostly from the brandy aging and a bit of roasted chocolate malt underneath but most of the the flavor is overpowered by a prominent brandy flavor.
