Commercial Description:
When reading the name “Stone Cali-Belgique IPA”, “Cali” hints that it is a California style IPA, and this brew has an undeniable Belgian influence, indicated by the word “Belgique” (which is how Belgium’s French-speaking population says the word “Belgian”; the Dutch speaking Belgians say “Belgie”). We carefully selected a Belgian yeast strain that illuminates a fascinating new aspect of the beer that is otherwise quite simply Stone IPA.

The result is both completely new and different, while still being recognizable as a Stone Brew – and Stone IPA in particular. Think of it as an otherwise identical twin to Stone IPA that was raised in a Belgian culture. Literally.

Bottle. Pours a clear golden amber with a thick white head. Somewhat complex nose comprised of pine, citrus, toast, malt. Light sweetness, malty with a nice caramel note. Big grapefruit bitterness. Pretty good, and better than I had anticipated.

On tap at the bistro/brewery in Escondido. Pours a clear, bright orange body with a very dense, creamy and foamy, finger-width, white head that never completely dissipates and leaves a lot of sticky lacing. Aroma of bright and fresh floral hops as well as a dense, earthy pine. Lots of citrus and fruits from the Belgian yeast strain. Some light caramels as well as a bit of pepper. Smells and tastes just like their IPA with a Belgian yeast strain (obviously). The flavor is pretty damn good. The Belgian yeast adds a nice complexity that isn’t found in the IPA. Still has lots of floral and earthy bitterness, but more sweet and smooth fruits. Basically perfect balance. Finishes very dry with a fruity and long earthy lingering taste. Palate is medium bodied, but very easy drinking for such a flavorful beer. Overall, wonderful. Possibly the best Beglian IPA I’ve had. A great variation on their already amazing IPA.

Golden color with a big beige head. Aroma of piney hops, yeast and spices. Flavor of pine and grapefruit hops and some spices. Finish is pretty bitter and hoppy. Good.

This was a very interesting and quite likable brew. From a 22 oz bottle it poured a cloudy gold with a big foamy white head and very sticky lacing rings. Nose is citrus hops backed by some spicy notes. Smooth and clean mouthfeel. Flavor is complex with bitterness from the hops mixed with some fruit flavors that I assume come from the yeast. Lightly bitter finish. Very easy to drink.

Clear golden yellow with a fluffy head. Aroma is bright and citrusy hops with some sweetness. Taste is very pleasant. Bright, clean, crisp with citrus and faint pine hops. Slightly earthy with a nice body too. Doesn’t linger with any bad flavors.

Tried this one from a growler fresh from the brewery. Pours very effervescent and hazy, almost like a weiss beer. The head fades quickly leaving a clear amber color with medium tan head. Spicy hops with some hints of pepper and citrus. Slightly sweet from the fruit notes and the caramel from the malt. I actually like it a little better than the highly rated Stone IPA. The Belgian yeast gives it an interesting depth of flavor that I find rather intriguing.

Pours a one finger white head that fades slowly to a thin layer leaving a good lace. Crystal clear amber color. Light-medium carbonation and medium bodied. Grapefruit nose. Flavor is grapefruit, malts are in the background, lingering bitter aftertaste that won’t go away. Overpriced at $7.99 for a 22oz bottle from Beverage Warehouse Winooski, VT.
