HogTownHarry (3922), Toronto (Harbourfront), Ontario, Canada Oct 27, 2009 Draught. At Cole’s, Buffalo NY. Slightly hazy gold pour with an average lasting white head. Somewhat sweet aroma - candi - very, very pungently bitter - sharp gingery/spicy Belgian yeast and grassy vaguely citrus (zest) -y west coast bitterness - moderate, noticeable alcohol presence - sort of a grassy witbier on steroids. The taste follows - a little jagged and lacking in cohesion, but the elements are all appealing to me - spicy, sweet, and more C-hop character than the nose - average body, extremely lively mouthfeel, with a dry, medium-long bitter/spicy finish. Mmmmm - I liked it! (update - had a sample from a bottle recently, too - hoppier than on tap - I liked it a bit more on draught). markwise (1132), 15 Minutes from Kuhnhenn in, Florida, USA Oct 26, 2009 Thanks to the Tampa Crew for the sample. Pours clear gold with a white head. Nose is caramel, malt, pine, white grapefruit, and a light malt backbone. Flavor is pine, pine, slight bitterness, white grapefruit, and a medium malt presence with a lingering bitterness. Interesting beer hopped to Hades. garthicus (1216), Toronto, Ontario, Canada Oct 25, 2009 Bomber. Appearance: Light golden orange, small off white head. Aroma: Quirky smoke-hops with citrus and banana, yeast and a good amount of champagne! Flavour: Spicy yeast, lots of hops, yum! Flat champagne, yeast, wood, mild carbonation, some tea notes and a beautiful hop finish. Stone hits it out of the ball park again. Braudog (3733), Dayton, Ohio, USA Oct 25, 2009 22 oz’er. Nice bright golden amber, almost opaque, and a nice sticky head. The aroma is warm, yeasty and enticing. This drinks with a distinct mustiness one would expect from a French farmhouse ale, sprinkled with a hint of American brewing genius. I’m not quite sure about this one ... (#3715, 10/25/2009) ansermadide (496), Kyle, Texas, USA Oct 25, 2009 Sampled at Flying Saucer’s Second Annual Fall Beer Festival in Austin on October 24, 2009. Super clear amber color, looks like real amber! Bubbly pure white head leaving bubbly lacing that falls fast. Aroma of yeast and light spice with hops. Flavor is hoppy, but has characteristics of a Belgian thanks to the Belgian yeast. Light on the palate, easy finish with lingering yeast. Not bad! Pookie9121 (83), Columbia, South Carolina, USA Oct 25, 2009 22 oz. Bottle. Pours a nice orange color. Light white head. Smells of citris and hops. Great beer. Recommended. kopher (295), New York, USA Oct 24, 2009 clear orange, thin foamy white head.
nice mixed aroma of belgian fruit and citrus and pine-y hops.
flavor is fairly mild, orange peel, grass, and candied bitter fruit. long mild bitter finish.
a bit on the thin side, and light carbonation, but good. Skeegle (476), Maryland, USA Oct 23, 2009 had the stone tastes to it but it also had an unrelenting dryness to it that I liked. It’s yeast tasted banana-ey and clovey, but it was ridiculously crisp. Like, popping taste buds crisp. Great and clean, spirited and lively, but the malt balance seemed gone. Great beer none the less, and an interesting take on a classic.
