Stone Cali-Belgique IPA (Cali-België)

Bottle. Amber beer with a strong head. The aroma is very well hopped and dry, and the flavour is vinous, and hopped with a sweet and then heavily dry finish. Overall a good beer.

i really liked this as im a big belgian, and ipa fan. this brew is very well balanced with a soft hop bite pushed through with that sweet belgian sugar. sweet malts cap this great drink off. get your hands on it if you can

Pours golden with a two finger off white head. Nose and flavor are sweet citrus and yeast. Lively on the palate.

bottle. Pour yields a vibrant clear golden color, highly burnished shiny copper. Small swirly foam head clears quick, leaving a nice layer of lacing. Aroma is dominated by a heavy sticky candy sweetness. Some smooth floral notes in the background, but dominant aroma is a saccharin-sweet candy aspect. Flavor luckily improves on the nose. Peppery spice phenol kick starts things off and stays. Prominent hop character does not blend well- sharp citric hops and peppery phenols clash, creating a fair amount of harshness. Not overpowering, but definitely noticeable. Certainly does not blend well either with the heavily sweet malty base. Drinkable, but certainly not an outstanding example of a hoppy belgian pale.

I am so sick of this crap from GOOD BREWERIES that tastes like plastic and dirt. Like this Stone offering, all of Russian River Brewing’s "clean" (not sour) Belgian ales are the same -- this ugly, horrible, dirty phenolic note just ruins everything. This is a yeast strain selection FAIL. In contrast, Achouffe and Westmalle (who both, reportedly, use the same strain) make luscious, candylike beers, proving that "Belgian" does not mean "smells like a box of band-aids with a side of loam."

22 oz bomber. Pours a beautiful medium golden brass with a medium oft white head. Aroma of light bananas, faint floral hops, bubble gum and dish soap. Taste of faint floral hops, bubble gum, bananas, tea and belgian yeast. Light and refreshing.

Ah yes Stone does it again. Nice pour leaves just shy of an inch head. Nice floral hop aroma on the nose. Drinkable, yes indeed this will be the perfect summer beer. Can almost taste the sweetness here and an aftertaste that is oh so pleasant. Very nice IPA that is also very unique as well.

Pours a light to medium golden with a persistent one inch white head. Powerful aroma of orange with notes of angel food cake, and pine. Flavor is not quite as potent as other IPAs, although it it quite pleasant. I detect floral hops, dish soap, and bananas. This beer is very smooth on the palate with a pleasant subtle lingering bitterness that I found refreshing. I approached this with an open mind and found it to be an extremely smooth and easy to drink IPA with an interesting twist.
