Commercial Description:
When reading the name “Stone Cali-Belgique IPA”, “Cali” hints that it is a California style IPA, and this brew has an undeniable Belgian influence, indicated by the word “Belgique” (which is how Belgium’s French-speaking population says the word “Belgian”; the Dutch speaking Belgians say “Belgie”). We carefully selected a Belgian yeast strain that illuminates a fascinating new aspect of the beer that is otherwise quite simply Stone IPA.

The result is both completely new and different, while still being recognizable as a Stone Brew – and Stone IPA in particular. Think of it as an otherwise identical twin to Stone IPA that was raised in a Belgian culture. Literally.

Bottle. Pours clear amber with a nice frothy off-white head. Aroma is mostly Belgian, spicy yeast and candi sugar, with a little bit of citrusy hops if you smell hard enough. The flavor starts off with the Belgian bubblegum sweetness but the hops take over and the finish is pretty good. Interesting stuff.

Interesting idea, no reason why it shouldnt work well. Pours golden orange body with a nicely packed off white head. Straight-up the nose is more belgian than US. Fruit present but tending to peach and lemon more so than grapfruit and apricot. Palate translates well, milder fruit present early with only a touch of caramel malt. Medium-high hop bitterness drives us back into US territory. Quite good. The use of belgian yeast tones down the usual overt sweetness and pine hop notes.

Bottle from Utobeer, shared at home with Mes, 27th Feb 2009. Golden amber with a big white head. Sublime floral aroma. Good flavours - fruit, soft malts, varied hops. Nice palate. Really impressive stuff.

Bottle from EZ. To me beers like this are the best of both worlds, I’m a huge Belgian fan and a huge IPA fan, so this works. Pours out a slightly orange, light copper color with a small to moderate white head. Aroma is of floral and citrus hops, fruit and slight spice notes. Taste is complex with a good balance of both worlds, citrus, piney hops go with some sweet fruity malt notes, dry finish. Another winner from stone

I didn’t know Stone brewed IPA’s. Wow, news to me. This one has been sitting in my fridge for long enough, I finally decided to drink it. The aroma is more of a perfumey floral hop scent, not spicy or too citrus-y. It has a kinda sugary scent in there (almost bubble-gum like). The flavor is really smooth and full of sweetness and bitterness. Again, there is this sugary flavor to it, more like candy. But with the hop characteristic... it all works out pretty nice. A good mingling of styles.

Location: Tried this one out of a 22 at RFDs. Jan ’09

Overall Impression: This one was really tasty, though I’d expect nothing less from the boys at Stone. A Cali IPA made with Belgian hops? Yes, please! An excellent experiment.

Golden pour with a hint of orange with a creamy off white head and lace. Citrus, cinnamon, pine, and perfume on the nose. Abv, citrus hops, clove, semi sweet malt on the flavor. A bit aggressive on the carbonation. Very unusual and interesting beer with a nice bitter.

Pours a very clear, almost lager, amber with a very powerful nose. Smells hoppy yet fruity(i smell a very strong grapefruit) at the same time,. Very little head. Very nice hoppy taste with a complex fruit overtone. Heavy citrus flavors compliment the bitter hops to round out the flavor very nicely. Very nice carbonation with hints of the alcohol in the palate. Very nice beer.
