ajwilliams (118), , Indiana, USA Oct 18, 2009 This one is just as described: the Stone IPA with Belgian yeast. Nice crispness of the IPA with a little funk of the yeast. A nice variation of a classic. eaglefan538 (2355), Wilmington, Delaware, USA Oct 18, 2009 Bottle from SL a week or two after having this at a SL rep tasting (but no rating). Quite nice, glad the IPA was the primary style here with the Belgian character in the background. Primarily the Stone IPA (a fav of mine) with some Belgian yeasts and breadiness in the background and a brighter fruity aspect perhaps. A good brew, but somewhat of a rebadge if you were looking for a new creation, as it’s not really that (perhaps that’s a good thing!). jmm635 (249), Havertown, Pennsylvania, USA Oct 17, 2009 Poured a hazy golden yellow with a small white head. Light hoppy, grapefruit aroma. Somewhat lacking. Surprising malty sweetness that reminds me more of a double. By itself, a pretty good beer, but can’t compare to the Stone IPA or Ruination. obguthr (986), Poquoson, Virginia, USA Oct 17, 2009 Hoppy grapefruit, banana, and pear aroma with a slight mustiness. Hazy golden, medium yellow head, nice lacing. Banana, pear, and pine needle flavor with copious amounts of the latter. Resinous mouthfeel at first that improves upon warming. Not a strong beer, but the IBUs seem to be off the charts. tgncc (796), Bellmore, New York, USA Oct 16, 2009 The aroma is citrus hops, yeasty, slightly fruity, and a small component of pungent basement aromas. Nice overall. The appearance is a nice orange-yellow, mostly opaque, white head. The flavor is a surprise; citrus hops, grapefruit, bread, yeast, slightly sour, like a sour orange candy. The finish is strong citrus hop bitterness, lingering, astringent. Medium mouthfeel, even slightly on the thin side. Not my usual cup of tea, but a unique, interesting and enjoyable beer none the less. biznizness (930), Mooresville, North Carolina, USA Oct 9, 2009 Didn’t love it. Nope. Two great tastes that don’t taste great together. I actually kind of of suffered through this. Had a weird, astringent, sour bitterness that I did not enjoy. Watched Watchmen while drinking this. jbender (17), Hatboro, Pennsylvania, USA Oct 7, 2009 Grapefruit dominates the aroma...pours out with a medium white head. Clear golden appearance. Citrus fruit taste along with american hops...can’t put my finger on the specific one...but def one of the northwestern hops. The belgian yeast adds a fruity complex....I’m not sure that the IPA blends well with it. While its interesting, I don’t think that its my style. jcr (1137), Jasper, Indiana, USA Oct 7, 2009 Bomber. Clear gold body with a frothy white head, mostly diminishing. The aroma is hoppy with resin, grapefruit and sweet oranges along with notes of toasted grain, alcohol and with slight hints of spice, dust, lacquer, soap. The flavor is moderately sweet, lightly acidic and moderately bitter. It finishes ligtly sweet, moderately acidic and moderately to heavily bitter. Medium body, watery texture and mild carbonation. It’s ashame that the hops overpower whatever characteristics the Belgian yeast is trying to give this beer. Still, the hops are good with the orange/grapefruit flavors lingering for some time. I expected the mouthfeel to be more substantial or at least the caronbation to provide crispness to the watery texture which it doesn’t.
