Commercial Description:
When reading the name “Stone Cali-Belgique IPA”, “Cali” hints that it is a California style IPA, and this brew has an undeniable Belgian influence, indicated by the word “Belgique” (which is how Belgium’s French-speaking population says the word “Belgian”; the Dutch speaking Belgians say “Belgie”). We carefully selected a Belgian yeast strain that illuminates a fascinating new aspect of the beer that is otherwise quite simply Stone IPA.

The result is both completely new and different, while still being recognizable as a Stone Brew – and Stone IPA in particular. Think of it as an otherwise identical twin to Stone IPA that was raised in a Belgian culture. Literally.

The stalwart Stone IPA with a Belgian yeast strain, adding a light doughy flavor and aroma. Great for those who enjoy Stone’s traditional IPA but looking for something a little lighter.

Interesting. Notes of honey and hops in the nose. Some faint spicy yeastiness. Appearance is amber with a thicker frothy head. Flavor is sweet caramel and honey, with faint banana notes and a strong citrus touch on top of it all from the hops. I hoped it would have a bigger yeast note, also expected it to be cloudy - it seems more IPA than Belgian - but different enough that I’ve never tasted anything like it.

22 oz bottle. Decent amount of hoppy aromas. Some bread-like aromas as well. Flavor was hoppier than yeasty. Very good take on a Belgian IPA.

bottle thanks to dkachur. nice amber color with a thin white head on top. citrusy hops on the nose with some Belgian yeast in the back. quite smooth on the palate with an interesting flavor of bright hops that fade into fruity yeast.

Bottle from Utobeer. The Stone IPA in cask at GBBF 2 years ago, left me a little cold, I expected someting better. So really interested in this to see if it would change my mind. Clear amber/gold with a couple of floaters, thin lasting off white head. Unmistakable Belgian yeast on aroma, along with some floral grapefruity west coast hops. Good to look at, good to smell. Mouthfeel is a bit odd. A Belgian strong ale style flavour. Drinks like a very hoppy Belgian strong, but with some wateryness in the mouthfeel. Some metallic toffee on the malts. It’s ok, but the mouthfeel is just too light. Yes hoppy on finish, but it does disappear a little apart from the toffee.

Tap at Stone. Pale golden amber beer with a thick white head. Aroma is pretty solid. Bright peachy fruity aroma with lots of nice Belgian spiciness. Some lightly citrusy hoppiness as well. A nice interplay between the fruity yeast and the fruity hops. Fairly lean and light bodied. A softly tropical hoppy flavour. Spiciness is muted but picks up as the beer warms up a bit. Sort of like a hoppy tripel.

Bomber from San Diego Drug. Amber gold color with a frothy multi-finger white head. Nice light pine aroma. Medium body with mild carbonation. A herbal hop flavor with touches of citrus and pine. Quite astringent. Nearly dry. Extremely delicious.

Bottle from Joey at South Bay. Looks like a Pils. Smells like that Taras Boulba I had at Concordia Ale House. Tastes a lot like that too, but less rich and vaporous. Tastes like a just shy of textbook Belgian IPA, with no trace of any SoCal flourish. Hmm.
