jbender (20), Hatboro, Pennsylvania, USA Oct 7, 2009 Grapefruit dominates the aroma...pours out with a medium white head. Clear golden appearance. Citrus fruit taste along with american hops...can’t put my finger on the specific one...but def one of the northwestern hops. The belgian yeast adds a fruity complex....I’m not sure that the IPA blends well with it. While its interesting, I don’t think that its my style. jcr (1139), Jasper, Indiana, USA Oct 7, 2009 Bomber. Clear gold body with a frothy white head, mostly diminishing. The aroma is hoppy with resin, grapefruit and sweet oranges along with notes of toasted grain, alcohol and with slight hints of spice, dust, lacquer, soap. The flavor is moderately sweet, lightly acidic and moderately bitter. It finishes ligtly sweet, moderately acidic and moderately to heavily bitter. Medium body, watery texture and mild carbonation. It’s ashame that the hops overpower whatever characteristics the Belgian yeast is trying to give this beer. Still, the hops are good with the orange/grapefruit flavors lingering for some time. I expected the mouthfeel to be more substantial or at least the caronbation to provide crispness to the watery texture which it doesn’t. kwerikson (65), burlington, New Jersey, USA Oct 3, 2009 pours out golden oarnge with a frothy white head about 2 fingers thick. strong citrus and pine aroma with a yeasty, foresty aroma after a good rain. it is malty across the tonuge underneath the pungent hop taste. aftertaste is bitter and lingers on in the back of the palate. good lacing in the glass and a great beer from the masters of Stone Brew. TampaBrew (749), Tampa, Florida, USA Oct 3, 2009 POurs a hazy yellow. Nose is spices, yeast, toasted malt, and pine and citrus hops. Flavor is an odd mixture of belgian yeast spice, clove and citrus hops. Bitterness stands out an clashes with the Yeast. I have yet to try a Belgian IPA that I like. aracauna (2357), Georgia, USA Oct 1, 2009 Hazy gold with a good head. The aroma is a nice meld of American hops and yeasty fruit. The mouthfeel is soft and the flavor is best described as soft as well. The hops are far from harsh, but are obvious. The malt is nicely balanced with the bitterness and fruit. A very drinkable beer. phaleslu (428), Cincinnati, Ohio, USA Sep 30, 2009 Draft at The Comet in Northside. Pours a nice golden color with an average white head. Great aroma of hops, pine, and citrus fruits, with some malt and yeast. The flavor is a more balanced slate but not quite as exciting as that first nose. Light bodied, bitter, active carbonation. I may have been starting to feel the effects of a full day of drinking by the time I had this, but I really enjoyed it. ElJefe (553), Rochester, New York, USA Sep 27, 2009 Pours the same beautiful gold color as Stone IPA, with a medium sized white head. Somewhat muted aroma that is mosly tangerine and resin. Lots of bitterness in the flavor, but not a whole lot of character or depth other than that. Some citrusy notes. Thin mouthfeel. BierBauch (639), Cape Coral Waterfront Wonderland, Florida, USA Sep 26, 2009 Cloudy deep golden in color with a thick and well retaining head. Big piney hop nose just like the regular IPA but with a noticably different yeast profile. Not as doughy and a distinct touch of Belgium. Medium bodied with a bitter finish. Fruity and hoppy with a slight difference from the original IPA yet not by much. Overall a very nice IPA but will probably stick with the original Stone IPA
