When reading the name “Stone Cali-Belgique IPA”, “Cali” hints that it is a California style IPA, and this brew has an undeniable Belgian influence, indicated by the word “Belgique” (which is how Belgium’s French-speaking population says the word “Belgian”; the Dutch speaking Belgians say “Belgie”). We carefully selected a Belgian yeast strain that illuminates a fascinating new aspect of the beer that is otherwise quite simply Stone IPA.

The result is both completely new and different, while still being recognizable as a Stone Brew – and Stone IPA in particular. Think of it as an otherwise identical twin to Stone IPA that was raised in a Belgian culture. Literally.

22 oz. bottle. Pours a hazy orange with a medium, rocky, off-white head and great lacing. The aroma is tangerines, resin, and butterscotch. The flavor is sweet and fairly bitter. The palate is light to medium, silky, and lightly effervescent. Overall, this is a sweet and funky IPA. Not bad.

An orange-yellow beer with a medium and blond head. The aroma is a great fruitbasket, belgian fruits, tropical fruits, citrusfruits and some fructose, and thatís it. Taste is fruitfull, some grapefruits and pine needles, medium bitterness, hint of herbs. Medium bodied, smooth carbonation and very pleasant to drink. Very good IPA where the yeast has done itís job and has given the nice additional value. Tastefull.

22 ounce bottle, served in a pint glass. One of the first Belgian IPAs I had, very interesting take.

Bottle from Coppers, Newcastle. Pale golden coloured with a sweet and tart lemon fruity flavour, vanilla and pine with a spicy, yeasty, zesty warming finish.

Great stuff. One of the best versions of this IPA variation style that Iíve had so far. Great mix of citrus hops and floral yeast that allows them to shine equally well without dampening eitherís effect. Lightly bitter and sweet finish. Orang0amber pour. Great stuff. Bottle.

650ml bottle into a Supermug; served cold. Aroma: Good spice box Belgian yeast, a little sourness, just a touch of campfire. Candied oranges. Appearance: This beer has a clear, amber-orange, sunset colored body. This beer has a slowly dissipating, small+ white head made even, small bubbles. This beer leaves a moderate amount of lacing. Taste: This beer has notes of orange. This beer is lightly bitter, and the hop profile further elaborates on citrus flavors. Towards the back of the palate, the spice-box flavors. Flavors blend well together. Palate: This beerís body is light+, but not watery at all. This beer has a gentle, tickling carbonation. This beerís finish long, and ends on light bitterness. Overall: A nice blend of Belgian flavors with IPA bitterness. SanTanís Supermonk was all IPA, with no classic Belgian flavors. Cali-Belgique is balanced, and both sides get equal representation.

Bottle shared with friend from Saveur-Biere.com - Color: clear blond beer with small carbonation and small white foam. Smell: nice complexity of hops and malt, some yeast notes. Floral and grassy. Taste: nice malty taste and good hops blast. Nice balance and really interesting. Aftertaste: nice hoppy taste and malty notes. Amazing!

I bought this one simply because of how unique it is. Stone takes a lot of chances and from what I have tasted, they do not miss often. It looks like any other mainstream beer in terms of color and amount of carbonation. The only exception to this is the copious amounts of white foam that rises up and leaves a good amount of sticky lacing. I thought the aroma was fantastic. Pine hops with sweet honey-like malt backbone. I am not getting as much of the Belgian style aromas; the little that I am detecting is probably only because I was looking for it. Nonetheless, Stone knocked it out of the park with the aroma of this beer. The taste reveals a little of the Belgian qualities - dark fruit, fresh bread, etc. but the original Stone IPA still shines through. I love Stone IPA and this could quite possibly be an improvement upon it. The palate is good for the style - to me it loses points for being a little too carbonated with an aftertaste that is a little too bitter. Good solid brew; who else besides Stone would think of this?

UPDATED: JUN 5, 2014 Appearance: Poured an almost perfectly clear orange-gold color, decent head about two fingers worth when first poured, stayed at about a fingers worth throughout drinking it. Aroma: Very hoppy smelling, and I could pick up on a slight fruitiness but it was very hard to pick out over the hops. Smelled a little stronger than other IPAs I have had. Taste: Citrus with some very light bready flavors. A bit of a pine aftertaste. Mouth feel: High carbonation, but I guess that comes with this style of beer.

It pours a light gold with a large white very long lasting head. It has the aroma of grapefruit, flowers, resin, pine and Belgian beer aromas. It has a nice bitterness to it. It tastes of resin, pine, lemon, grapefruit with a slight Belgian yeast flavor. I like this beer a lot. It was a very good price too.

Shared bomber to snifters. Golden yellow with white head. The hops, malts, and belgian character are all mild. Sweet and fruity delicious.
