When reading the name “Stone Cali-Belgique IPA”, “Cali” hints that it is a California style IPA, and this brew has an undeniable Belgian influence, indicated by the word “Belgique” (which is how Belgium’s French-speaking population says the word “Belgian”; the Dutch speaking Belgians say “Belgie”). We carefully selected a Belgian yeast strain that illuminates a fascinating new aspect of the beer that is otherwise quite simply Stone IPA.

The result is both completely new and different, while still being recognizable as a Stone Brew – and Stone IPA in particular. Think of it as an otherwise identical twin to Stone IPA that was raised in a Belgian culture. Literally.

Bottle. Very nice round and well balanced hop flavor. Maybe the Belgian yeast give more body to the beer than a traditional ipa ale yeast.

Sample at SBWF 2015. A bit hazy medium amber with a white head. Aroma and taste of fruit, yeast, grapefruit, hops and some light grass. Balanced and with a medium body. The finish was nicely bitter. A pleasant one.

Keg at Big Country, Stockholm. Pours hazy amber with a white head. Nice hoppy IPA, balanced with a malty body and fruity, ester yeastyness.

Pours clear light amber with a medium frothy white head. Aromas of peach, esters, grapefruit, kiwi, resin. Taste is grapefruit and peach upfront with notes of banana, kiwi and resin right behind. Mouthfeel is somewhat oily with medium body and carbonation.

Pours a nice yellow color and has nice solid lacing. Not much head retention here, but that’s not too bad of a problem. Smells like banana and almost finishes smoky on the nose. Tastes like a typical Belgian beer, like banana and wheat, but also has the floral characteristics of an IPA. Also tastes kind of like smoked peat at the end.

Pours golden with a HUGE foamy head that keeps growing. Aroma has that ripe banana from the Belgian yeast. A nice malty taste with a sharp bitterness too and a sweet Belgian yeast finish.

On tap at O’Connors. Golden with big white head. Aroma malty caramel, some yeast and hops. Taste is yeasty, some belgo yeast esters, lemon, grapefruit, wood and lemony notes. Very balanced and nice

Ámbar limpio, espuma blanca compacta. Aromas cítricos y fruta naranja, levadura y herbáceos. Cuerpo medio, sabor de fruta naranja con cítrico punzante y final de amargor medio, seco y duradero.

Bottle from the LCBO. Hazy medium gold with a small off white head that fades quickly to a sheet and leaves nice lace. Nose is sweet toffee and honey with citrus and grass over some yeast and notes of coriander. Light sweet honey start leading to the regular Stone IPA bitter middle but with a bit of spiciness. Medium chewy mouth with average carbonation and a long bitter finish. Nice but the spice and yeast actually detracts from the base IPA.

An unclear golden beer with a thin white head. The aroma is sweet with strong notes of spices - mainl coriander, but also with medium notes of yeast and peaches. The flavor is also sweet and very spicy - again coriander coming strongest, combined with notes of peaches, leading to a dry spicy finish.
