When reading the name “Stone Cali-Belgique IPA”, “Cali” hints that it is a California style IPA, and this brew has an undeniable Belgian influence, indicated by the word “Belgique” (which is how Belgium’s French-speaking population says the word “Belgian”; the Dutch speaking Belgians say “Belgie”). We carefully selected a Belgian yeast strain that illuminates a fascinating new aspect of the beer that is otherwise quite simply Stone IPA.

The result is both completely new and different, while still being recognizable as a Stone Brew – and Stone IPA in particular. Think of it as an otherwise identical twin to Stone IPA that was raised in a Belgian culture. Literally.

Bam! Orange and lemon peel punch to the nostrils. Quite pungent citrus aroma, with a touch of yeast, obviously. First sip was a little surprising; this brew is a thinner body than I was expecting. Not weak and tenuous or anything, but I was expecting a thicker feel. After the citrus and yeast, the brew is grassy and floral. Make no mistake, this beer is Californian before Belgian. The only thing I wasn’t impressed with was the appearance. Decent head that recesses into a bit of lace, but the color is a real unassuming, light amber color. But you know, who cares, it’s a beer, not a mural. Delicious brew, and worth the price of the bomber. Nothing breathtaking, but tasty.

The combination of Belgian yeast and California ipa has one winner: the yeast. By all means this could have been a Belgian ale. As such it it ok but I expected some more west-coast influence

Clean pale golden colour, medium white head. Fruity and floral aroma with notes of citrus, pine, caramel, hint of spices. Sweet lightly dry taste with hoppy bitterness in finish and aftertaste. Thin body and average carbonation. Nice hoppy IPA with strong Belgian touch.

Can at home. Aroma is malt, spicy peppery Belgian yeast, fruity and floral hops, touch of pine resin, some bubblegum. Flavour is above moderate sweet and medium bitter. Body is medium. Pretty strong Belgian profile with the typical clean Stone hops and malts. Nice.

Pours an almost clear golden color with medium to huge white head.Aroma is close to a Belgian Tripel, yeasty and spicy, with barely hop presence. Taste is yeasty and spicy, with citrus and pine, finishing with a strong bitterness.
