When reading the name “Stone Cali-Belgique IPA”, “Cali” hints that it is a California style IPA, and this brew has an undeniable Belgian influence, indicated by the word “Belgique” (which is how Belgium’s French-speaking population says the word “Belgian”; the Dutch speaking Belgians say “Belgie”). We carefully selected a Belgian yeast strain that illuminates a fascinating new aspect of the beer that is otherwise quite simply Stone IPA.

The result is both completely new and different, while still being recognizable as a Stone Brew – and Stone IPA in particular. Think of it as an otherwise identical twin to Stone IPA that was raised in a Belgian culture. Literally.

Poured from a 22 oz bottle into a 0.5L wheat glass. Pours a golden hazy yellow/orange with a smallish white head. Smells of yeast, bread, citrus and bubblegum. Tastes of citrus, grapefruit, peppery, biscuit and caramel. Medium to full bodied with a lingering aftertaste of belgian funk and bitterness. I donít really like belgian ipaís and this one is no different. Not bad for itís style I suppose. My dislike of the style is unfortunately factored in the scoring, there really was no way for me to do otherwise with this.

Rich and sturdy with a fair amount of piney bitterness but pleasantly citrusy and refreshing. Solid hybrid.

So many ratings yet this is the first time Iíve seen it. Tap. Sweet perfume aroma. Pale yellow. Puffy head. Strong bitter medicine. Hardly any co2. Lingering finish. Not impressed. Needs a little civility.

Interesting brew, flavors work well. Pours light gold with a thick, dense head (like my brother). The aroma has the banana and clove thing but then a whiff of pine. Pretty much the same n the glass - starts off down the Belgian road then swings you back into piney grapefruit. Long finish. Yum.

Really good IPA with less hops than typical IPA. Had on tap at Stanbury in Raleigh...

Mmm ... citrusy, fruity bitterness in the aroma and first bite then comes the yeast and thatís replaces by a long sweet bitter after-taste. Medium bodied with plenty of foamy head.

A good balance between belgian yeast and IPA hops. Not a strong yeast, but a fruity flavor imparted on the tongue with a hoppy finish. Not too bitter.

(Draught at BrewDog Stockholm, 11 June 2015) Golden colour with frothy, white head. Malty, spicy nose with notes of dried apricots, citrus, grass and spicy yeast. Malty, fruity taste with dried apricots, citrus, hay, spicy yeast, resin and a generous spicy bitterness in the finish. Medium body, with a touch of sweetness. Tasty and interesting, with a spicy touch of Belgian yeast. Nice one.
