COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
When reading the name “Stone Cali-Belgique IPA”, “Cali” hints that it is a California style IPA, and this brew has an undeniable Belgian influence, indicated by the word “Belgique” (which is how Belgium’s French-speaking population says the word “Belgian”; the Dutch speaking Belgians say “Belgie”). We carefully selected a Belgian yeast strain that illuminates a fascinating new aspect of the beer that is otherwise quite simply Stone IPA.

The result is both completely new and different, while still being recognizable as a Stone Brew – and Stone IPA in particular. Think of it as an otherwise identical twin to Stone IPA that was raised in a Belgian culture. Literally.

Duvel glass coaxes a fine channel of carbonation through a clear, deep amber body beneath a fading, soapy white head. Incredibly floral aroma with lavender being prominent. Yes. I used to enjoy munching those little lavender pressed-sugar candies and this is right on the money. Seriously perfumed, so much as to make my nose twitch. Gentle cheese yeasts eventually make their way through that garden with a bitter backing of hops which seems more German than the PNWs I was expecting. Flavor is intriguing in its layers, starting with hops (both grassily bitter and grapefruitily citric) and finishing on pungent, bittersweet flower petals floating on honeyed orange juice. In all, Cali-België has an almost otherworldly uniqueness. If I could not call this a "beer", I’d call it a potion. Or an elixir. I never imagined I’d write this in a review, but this brew is magically delicious. ~~~~~~~~ The beer I selected for my 42nd birthday, 22 oz. bomber from Kenwood Liquors, Oak Lawn, IL.

22oz bottle. Hazy amber with a frothy white head. Flavors are pale cereals, bubblegum, lemongrass, orange peel and pine with floral and spicy notes. Medium body, moderate carbonation, slick texture. Subtle Belgian yeast character blends with classic IPA essences in a cohesive manner. But somehow, the sum of its parts falls short of becoming something memorable.

Bottle from Stone in Asagaya. Pours a clear goldenrod color with a small soapy white head. Aromas of iyokan, orange and lemon with some nice Belgian yeast character on the nose. Taste is more of the same. Very bright citric flavor on the palate with a nice light peppery and semi-sweet character. Mouthfeel is almost saison-like...wonderful carbonation throughout. Very crisp and refreshing. It is what it says it is perfectly.

Enjoy by 10/01/15 650ml bottle. Pours a nearly clear yellow/gold with a one finger, white head that thins but leaves mild lacing. Aroma has bright notes of citrus, bubble gum, candy sugar, and medium pine/resin. Taste is balanced. Starts with candy sugar and bubble gum, then goes resiny and piney with citrus, slight bread/caramel, and a drawn out, resiny ending. Medium-full body with a medium carbonation. Resiny texture with a dry finish. Overall a fantastic Belgian IPA. Big American hop flavours mixed with classic Belgian notes.

Pour is slightly hazy gold with a big white head, no sediment at the bottom, curious for a Belgian style. Smells yeasty and citrusy hmmm. This beer was exactly as I imagined it, not quite as bitter as the regular IPA but with much weirder flavours, some yeasty and banana flavours, bitter enough but that doesn’t seem to be the focus here. The palate is great, rolls around your tongue with lots of carbonation, medium bodied, very long aftertaste, dry. I always have high expectations of Stone this lived up to them!

As the reviewer below notes, this stuff really is exactly as advertised. At first pour it smells just like Stone IPA, but as it warms the yeast really starts to come through (coriander in particular). A bit of soap, too, and something almost minty. Taste-wise there’s a nice peppery quality in there that provides a welcome tingle (am I right, ladies??) Good stup, and nice mashup.

As advertised and really tasty. The Belgian yeast works effectively with the citrus and tropical fruit hops to create a classic Belgian IPA. The malt backbone is sweet and blends well with the more prominent hop and yeast elements. Really excellent balances for a brewery that doesn’t do a lot of Belgian beers.

It smells less than what it gives your mouth. First sip of this golden ipa with a nice white foam is indeed a funky ipa. Then you taste the malts and the fruits and the bitterness. It is not a clone of their ipa, but it is an sibling. Really well balanced, good bitterness. Amazing ipa! ---Rated via Beer Buddy (iOs)

Bottle at home. Pours a slight hazy golden. Sweet bubblegum and lemon Belgian yeast aroma. Delicious grapefruity pine hop taste and bitterness all balanced with the malts; not an excessively loaded USA malt bill that is. Rich character and yet easy drinking. Another favourite of mine that I’ve finally got around to rating.

Cervesa molt correcte, lleuger aroma, gust més protagonista, es nota molt el llevat. Cerveza muy correcta, ligero aroma, sabor mas protagonista, se nota mucho la levadura.
