Commercial Description:
When reading the name “Stone Cali-Belgique IPA”, “Cali” hints that it is a California style IPA, and this brew has an undeniable Belgian influence, indicated by the word “Belgique” (which is how Belgium’s French-speaking population says the word “Belgian”; the Dutch speaking Belgians say “Belgie”). We carefully selected a Belgian yeast strain that illuminates a fascinating new aspect of the beer that is otherwise quite simply Stone IPA.

The result is both completely new and different, while still being recognizable as a Stone Brew – and Stone IPA in particular. Think of it as an otherwise identical twin to Stone IPA that was raised in a Belgian culture. Literally.

At the tip, at the tip, at the tip of my tongue!! Bottle. Pours a clear orange body. Aroma is very nice - fruit, citrus, grapefruit, and hops. Taste is very different. IPA mixed with a light witbier. This beer is like singing two notes at the same time. Pretty neat beer, thanks Stone.

I didn’t know Stone brewed IPA’s. Wow, news to me. This one has been sitting in my fridge for long enough, I finally decided to drink it. The aroma is more of a perfumey floral hop scent, not spicy or too citrus-y. It has a kinda sugary scent in there (almost bubble-gum like). The flavor is really smooth and full of sweetness and bitterness. Again, there is this sugary flavor to it, more like candy. But with the hop characteristic... it all works out pretty nice. A good mingling of styles.

Thanks Walt for the bottle. Pours a clear gold with a very thin white head. Interesting aroma, but light. Belgian yeast, citrus, and some sugar. Flavor is slight sweet from the malt in the beginning but the hops overpower and there is some slick bitterness at the end. Interesting beer and I like the idea/style.

Hoppy grapefruit, banana, and pear aroma with a slight mustiness. Hazy golden, medium yellow head, nice lacing. Banana, pear, and pine needle flavor with copious amounts of the latter. Resinous mouthfeel at first that improves upon warming. Not a strong beer, but the IBUs seem to be off the charts.

12/10/09 (From bomber, aroma of grapefruit, bubble gum and citrus . . . the Belgian yeast is blending well with the American hops! Flavor is hoppy, minerally, with a “candy hop” essence. Palate is clean, medium-light in body, with a lingering semi-bitter finish. This beer is better than I remember, a worthy addition to the Stone IPA family.

Pours a golden color with a small white head. Aroma is sweet malt, belgian yeasts and some hops. Flavor is pineapple, lots of sweetness, citrus, spices, esthers, belgian yeasts with a hoppy finish. Interesting take on the style. Decent brew.

Picked up this bottle in Ohio. Didn’t know what to expect and was pleasantly surprised. Why, don’t know, Stone has never disappointed me. Heavy heavy grapefruit and pine aroma, fresh hops basically. Clear, gold appearance with fine lacing. Palate is art. Apricot, wheat, bubble gum, awesome interesting and complex there is more going on there. Nice middle part, velvety, then finishes dry.
