COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
When reading the name “Stone Cali-Belgique IPA”, “Cali” hints that it is a California style IPA, and this brew has an undeniable Belgian influence, indicated by the word “Belgique” (which is how Belgium’s French-speaking population says the word “Belgian”; the Dutch speaking Belgians say “Belgie”). We carefully selected a Belgian yeast strain that illuminates a fascinating new aspect of the beer that is otherwise quite simply Stone IPA.

The result is both completely new and different, while still being recognizable as a Stone Brew – and Stone IPA in particular. Think of it as an otherwise identical twin to Stone IPA that was raised in a Belgian culture. Literally.

Golden brew with the smell of mandrine orange and herbs. Taste was bland at first and I didn’t much think I cared for it, but after a few sips the flavor balanced out with some sweetness in there but yet the hops was odd and I couldn’t seem to really figure the taste. Noticed other reviewers here couldn’t seem to agree either. Some say citrus, others floral, and others are going with pine. The more I drink this one the more it seems to take on different flavors. The resinish bland seems to be in the aftertaste so I am going with just an Interesting flavor. Overall it is good, but for the high price tag not going back for more of this one.

High expectations. Pour is lager esk and more on the yellow side than orange. Nice thin lacing that holds. Aroma is a little lacking. Mild citrus, and bittera. Flavor is much more citrusy with pine needles. Medium body. Meh wish it was fresher

Pours a hazy golden orange with a frothy white head. Aroma of spicy belgian yeast, pepper, citrus hops, grapefruit and fruity notes. Taste is spicy belgian yeast, black pepper, pine, grapefruit and citrus hops with a nice well rounded bitterness. Dry finish make this pleasant to drink however the body seems a bit thin. Big and bold on the nose and the flavor just doesn’t carry as much of a punch.

Aroma: yeast, grain malts, intense flowers. Appearance: clear gold, small, white head. Taste: medium bitter. Palate: grain malts coming up, sweets, light bitters again towards the end. Overall: nice IPA, excellent aroma and palate. Pint at Stone Brewing, Escondido.

First shot at a fresh one of these in...no idea how long. Worth the wait. Pours that slightly hazy Stone IPA gold color with a frothy eggshell head that settles fairly quickly to a thick ring/film and leaves heaps of foamy, intricate lace. Nose involves sweet stone fruit, some banana esters, light earthy funk, zesty spice, a touch of honey, some tropical fruit, suggestions of candy sugar. Fairly sweet, decently bitter, a dash tart. Medium bodied, quite oily, pretty active, zesty and snappy on the palate, finishing dry, toasty, and yeasty. This is seriously a great beer. Perhaps it goes overlooked against the array of Stone beers, but I dig this a lot. Glad I got some.

650ml bomber pours a golden orange color with a finger and a half of white head that settles to leave some nice lacing on the glass. Aroma is pine and citrus with some yeasty notes. Taste is a pine and citrus hop bitterness with a grainy malt sweetness with a light dry yeasty finish. Medium bodied with decent carbonation that pleases the palate. Definitely worth sampling this one.

UPDATED: OCT 1, 2014 A medium amber fluid topped with an off white head. Not too sweet, not too spicy, not to bitter, a perfect Stone balance. Love this beer.

Pours a translucent copper color with a big sudsy white head that leaves plenty of lacing. Bubble gum yeast aromas combine with a bit of a grainy, malt huskiness. Some herbal, earthy hops with Scottish field grass add some freshness to the nose, but the gummy yeast characters dominate. The flavour is very dry with notes of bubblegum, grassy and bitter hops, spiciness and breadiness. Full bodied. Tasty and interesting beer.

Pours dark gold/light amber with a thin, wispy, white head that dissipates and leaves thin lacing. Aroma of grapefruit, herbs, floral, nuts, brown sugar, and resin...pretty nice. This is a good balance between a California IPA and an amber Belgian ale. A little too heavy on the resinous, high alpha hops for me, I prefer the Belgian style, but overall refreshing and very drinkable. Has a bitter aftertaste but it’s manageable. Focus is on citrus flavors, strong bitter hops to balance the sweetness, a straightforward version of an IPA/Belgian cross, nicely done.
