This beer was amazing and unexpected. I am used to being shocked by Stone, but this beer was a very pleasant surprise. A traditional looking IPA except that it is a little light in color. Clear. Tall rocky head that left sculpted concentric rings. Amazingly the yeast aroma really battle with the hops in the nose. On first sniff I was confused. My curiosity aroused. Very spicy as well dominated by cloves. I have never had a beer with such overt clove aroma. Is it the Belgian yeast that does this? The taste was all Stone IPA but more. The brew tasted like a blend of caramel malts, citrusy hops and a fruity taste. The fruit was pineapple-mango-peach-tangerine. Very intriguing. Then the hops wrestled the aftertaste away again. A fresh grassy sort of hops. Very fresh like a wet-hopped beer. The body was medium light with average carbonation. Call the texture soft to oily. Overall a great and refreshingly different beer. It’s not your traditional IPA. I give Stone top marks for attempting this unique hybrid and pulling it off.

12 oz. bottle, consumed on 6-27-16. Bottled 04/10/16. Pours a clear bronze with a small amount of beige head. Good, dry, Belgian smell. Floral, caramel, herbal, and paint-like aroma. Scents of basil. Dry, hoppy flavor. Herbal taste. Spruce, potpourri, and even some milkiness. Peach sweetness, but the dry, herbal hoppiness definitely dominates, for the better for the beer. Lively and smooth in the palate. Medium to full body. Really good and likable. The Belgian and IPA elements gel really well.

Golden hue with thick white head. Funky Belgium nose. Dry bitterness of the yeast plays well off the malt sweetness. Not much hop flavour but enough interesting stuff going on to make this a lovely beer.

3.6 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 16/20

4.5 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 18/20
Big grapefruit, citrus, resin and pine, noticable fruity estery yeast character with some spice, complex, layered supported by a well balanced malt backbone, ABV noticable but not boozy.
Hazy golden colour, big white head, good amount of lacing.
The lovely assertive Stone bitterness envelops the tastebuds, leaving ridiculous amounts of grapefruit and resinous pine, the malts are there just to carry the hop onslaught. The Belgian yeast strains leave fruity estery and spicy notes that go together lovely with the other components of the beer.
Medium body, slick mouthfeel, average to soft carbonation, bitter, yeasty and lightly warming finish.

From a bottle into a North Coast chalace. Pours gold amber with head and lace. Aroma of malt, straw hops, Belgian yeast esters. Significant carbonation and mouthfeel. Flavors of rich grains, malt, straw hops, grapefruit rind, bitter herbs. Overall big, bold, flavorful with some rough edges.

3.2 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 12/20
Light head, gold body. Fades fast. Aroma is a little peppery, light. Grass hops. Taste is dry, hop bitter isn’t strong but still dominant. Light Belgian yeast flavors. It kind of suffers as a frankenbeer, not scratching either style itch.

Bomber bottle served in tulip glass. Clear light pour with thin head though well carbonated. Nice balance in aroma and taste with both Belgium and IPA working well together. Great summer evening brew!
