COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
When reading the name “Stone Cali-Belgique IPA”, “Cali” hints that it is a California style IPA, and this brew has an undeniable Belgian influence, indicated by the word “Belgique” (which is how Belgium’s French-speaking population says the word “Belgian”; the Dutch speaking Belgians say “Belgie”). We carefully selected a Belgian yeast strain that illuminates a fascinating new aspect of the beer that is otherwise quite simply Stone IPA.

The result is both completely new and different, while still being recognizable as a Stone Brew – and Stone IPA in particular. Think of it as an otherwise identical twin to Stone IPA that was raised in a Belgian culture. Literally.

Bomber. Pours a crisp clear golden orange with bright fluffy head. Aroma is fruity, floral bouquet. Taste is an interesting mix of frutiness...bananas, tangerine, a slight tang, all balanced by the funky influence of belgian yeast. A great IPA with an interesting twist!

UPDATED: OCT 1, 2014 A medium amber fluid topped with an off white head. Not too sweet, not too spicy, not to bitter, a perfect Stone balance. Love this beer.

First shot at a fresh one of these in...no idea how long. Worth the wait. Pours that slightly hazy Stone IPA gold color with a frothy eggshell head that settles fairly quickly to a thick ring/film and leaves heaps of foamy, intricate lace. Nose involves sweet stone fruit, some banana esters, light earthy funk, zesty spice, a touch of honey, some tropical fruit, suggestions of candy sugar. Fairly sweet, decently bitter, a dash tart. Medium bodied, quite oily, pretty active, zesty and snappy on the palate, finishing dry, toasty, and yeasty. This is seriously a great beer. Perhaps it goes overlooked against the array of Stone beers, but I dig this a lot. Glad I got some.

Pours a translucent copper color with a big sudsy white head that leaves plenty of lacing. Bubble gum yeast aromas combine with a bit of a grainy, malt huskiness. Some herbal, earthy hops with Scottish field grass add some freshness to the nose, but the gummy yeast characters dominate. The flavour is very dry with notes of bubblegum, grassy and bitter hops, spiciness and breadiness. Full bodied. Tasty and interesting beer.

Pours a nice golden hue. Scent is bright and citrus. Taste is grapefruit and bitter pine. Great version of a Belgian inspired American IPA. Cheers! Excellent ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Tap in a pint glass at Lake & Irving. Lighter golden in color. Lacing is strong. Taste has the best of hops...citrus, bitter, pine. Really ready to drink and perfectly refreshing. End has elements of Belgian yeast which plays well with the hoppy qualities. I’m a big fan. Stone delivers again.

Bottle - good size creamy head, light gold color, big citrus and pine aroma and flavor, mild malt backbone, maybe some very mild Belgian yeast spice, mainly in the aftertaste - very good overall though ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Poured from bomber into a chalice glass Appearance – The beer pours a slightly hazy golden color with almost no head, but just a faint bit of white foam sitting atop the brew. The foam islands fade rather fast leaving no lace on the sides of the glass. Smell – The smell is heaviest of a nice biscuit malt smell mixed with a good deal of candied sugar and some yeast. Along with these very aromas were some great notes of tangerine and orange as well as spice smells of clove, coriander, and nutmeg. Rounding out the aroma nicely are some hop smells of a grapefruit, floral , and grassy nature, which meld very nicely with the sweeter and biscuit malt aromas to create one fantastic smell overall. Taste – The taste begins with a blend of a cracker and biscuit flavor mixed with a bit of tangerine sweetness. A hop flavor of grapefruit and a floral nature are present upfront as well, with the floral maintaining strength to the end, all while the grapefruit gets stronger and stronger. Some candied sugar and yeast come to the tongue soon after the initial tastes, with the yeast bringing with it some notes of a clove and coriander spice flavor. Along with these flavors some decently grassy and herbal hop flavors later come to the tongue, and with the increase in the grapefruit hop give the brew a big bitter boost. While the bitterness is increased, it never becomes overwhelming, instead, it mixes nicely with the sweeter and malty Belgian flavors to leave a rather nice more balanced Belgian IPA flavor to linger on the tongue. Mouthfeel – The body of the beer is on the thinner and crisper side with a carbonation level that average. The thinner body made for an easy drinking brew, all while the average carbonation was OK for both the IPA and Belgian characteristics of the brew. I would have liked a bit more carbonation to accentuate the Belgian characteristics slightly more, but overall it was an alright feel. Overall – A quiet drinkable brew, which was very balanced. A very nice Belgian IPA that had a great flavor profile and amazing nose. Quite tasty.
