2.8 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 4/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 12/20
An interesting recipe, if not an ideal combination of smoked Porter beer and chipotle pepper. It really does taste like a BBQ.

3.5 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20
Poured from a refrigerated bottle into a brandy snifter. Pours a darker brown with a beige head of foam. The head is darker on this one than it is on the vanilla bean varietal. The aroma just hints at a pepper presence. Itís not overbearing, which I like, but I wish it was a little more prevalent. The taste had a more pronounced smoke character to it than did the vanilla bean. Still, the original smoked porter has way more smoke to it than either of these two bottles. Odd.

3.8 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 16/20
Pours dark brown with a medium head. Dark chocolate, coffee, and dark berries with a hint of spice on the nose. Chipotle peppers come out on the finish to give it a bite. Paired with dark chocolate with chiles.

4 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
Trying side by side against the Vanilla. 2012, 12 oz bottle into a snifter glass. Pro-tip: Let this beer warm up! The peppers are non-existent when the beer is cold.
A - Very dark brown body, seems to be a bit darker than the vanilla and thus lets through less light. Thin light tan head with some edging and a splotchy cap. Decent lacing and retention.
S - Smoked malts, raw and fresh jalapenos and a touch of chocolate. Its pretty soft, but this does smell pretty damn amazing for a pepper porter.
T - Starts off smokey with some chocolate and coffee notes, then comes a pleasant jalepeno flavor, then...ohhh yeah, a very soft but noticable pepper burn. You can feel the burn on your tongue, but its like watered down Tabasco. Is there an aftertaste? I canít tell, Iím just distracted by the burn. I have to admit the beer is tasty and balanced, albeit simple...but that burn just brings the beer to whole new level. Mouth feel is medium to light bodied.
M - A very tasty beer, and the clear winner of the mini-smoked porter competition. Its tasty and the burn is oh so pleasant, but like ordering a sandwich with what you believe to be hot jalapenos peppers and instead receiving those lame mild peppers, I found myself wanting more burn!

3.7 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20
The base beer here is awesome, peppery and smoky all together, some chili bite but not much, I really like chilis in beers

3.9 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
Location/Date:Bottle on September 20th, 2012.
Appearance: Pours black with light red head.
Aroma: Aroma is roasted malt with hint of chipotle peppers. Nice.
Taste: Roasty malt, faint hop, a nice amount of chipotle peppers but not overbearing, even though I like spice.Aftertaste has a bit of pepper too.
Palate:Medium light, light lingering aftertaste.
Summary: I really enjoyed this brew. Three reasons - Porter to me is an underrated style, I like spicy food, and well Stone makes a mean beer. Really enjoyable.

3.3 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20
12 oz bottle, crushed with TheRon, pours a reddis-black with a lingering, light tan head. Smoky, chilie aroma. Mostly smoky, slightly spicy flavor. The chilies are apparent, but donít offer any heat, and are just kind of there. Coats the mouth in an unpleasant way.

4 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 17/20
Pours black and ruby in the glass with a creamy sudsy head. Definite smokey aroma up front with a mix of herbs. Bitter roasted espresso upfront followed by a slight spicy heat that fades slightly. Overall, nice to have sampled this one. Iíll be on the look out for more.
